Zelda: Twilight Princess

The latest issue of Edge popped through the letterbox this morning, and included an extended preview of TP. They got to spend 6 hours with the full game, and by the sounds of it TP is shaping up to be a beauty. Their praise of what they had played so far was nothing short of gushing, and the write up brought accross the atmosphere and style of the game really well.

In what they stated was indicative of the true scale of the game was the fact that at the end of their 6 hours, they had only played through one dungeon, which is apparently part one of a set of three (a la Ocarina) preceeding the main quest. The game is BIG!

There are a few minor plot spoilers which in a way I wish I hadn't read, but as they were near the start of the game I don't think they are giving too much away. Suffice to say, the whole Twilight realm thing sounds like the light/dark world of LTTP all over again, just in super Wii glory.

They also said the music is probably the best of any Zelda game so far, and that the controls, once you have settled down with them for a while, feel totally natural. They also made special mention of the wiimote speaker, which apparently adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game.

All in all this sounds very promising indeed, and my excitement for this game has now reached the levels I thought I'd seen the last of with Ocarina's release. Bring. It. On. Tongue

Oh, and Saur you also got a mention in this month's issue for your God Hand vids Smile

"Games like God Hand - spectacular, technical and entertaining - are the forefront of the new trend for YouTube-based videogame guides, created by capable players such as UK-based Saurian"

Big up, Mr 'Capable'! Smile

Oh, the irony; they banned Saur from the EDGE forums years ago for (rightfully!) tearing their staff a new one. Lots of people I know professionally talked about Saur's Godhand video rebuff of the IGN atrocity. Mainly because it scared the shit out of them I think.

Youtube is great like that though, you can actually show egotistical wankers that they're actually gaming mongs.

Yeah man they banned me from the Edge forum because I could talk back to them about how they fail to grasp what certain games are all about. What made me stop buying the magazine was the few paragraphs they had the nerve to call a Smash Bros DX review. To me that game was as big an event as SNES Mario Kart was - it's absolute genius, the depth of play is staggering! Watch ANY professional Smash Bros DX matches on YouTube and you'll see it's like a mini VF2 and people are STILL all over it to this day.

Then came the Panzer Dragoon Orta review and I couldnt keep quiet anymore - which got me banned.

I'm well motivated to put more stuff up now though, shocked I got a mention!

I remember McCarthy saying something crazy that Rez was "deeper" than Orta and you ripped him a new one as a consequence (rightly so).

It's good they did mention you though, whilst the hypocrisy amuses me the fact that they can't ignore people like you anymore can only be a good thing.

Zelda sounds like it's gonna make me faint. Please make that be! If all this Wii stuff turns out as good as what people are reckoning I'm gonna need some serious medication to see me through. Is there such thing as excitement related stress?

LttP was my fave game of all time until Perfect Dark 64 came along and tbh I've found every Zelda release since a tad lacking, compared to the 16bit big boy anyway...

Is Koji Kondo still on the music does anyone know?

Likewise... I can't really get my head around this.

I've not seen one thing, except that trailer they put out on the DS thing that I got going with the tricky DS Download station fudge that was possible a while back.

Wind Waker was very good, had a really really good vibe.

I've been plodding through Majora's Mask on the Cube rerelease, but I've left that a while. I really really really loved Ocarina of Time, that had it all, Time Travel, Skeleton Warriors on flying boats, mad mad mad 3d puzzles...

LTTP is a game I want to hit again properly, maybe as a VC game. And I've always wanted to get into the Gameboy iterations, but I might get Zelda saturated... so I'm going cold turkey on that till Twighlight Princess.

I completely failed to get my head around Majora's Mask which pissed me off so much cos it had such an amazing 'look' about it Sad Didn't release it was released on the Cube, but then I never did play through OoT again when I got that on the Cube.

Loved Minish Cap on the DS (well that's what I played it on anyways).

This though is gonna be truly epic. I'm superpumpedXhyped!

Those cinematics are a bit shit for a Zelda game and awfully similar to Shadow of the Colossus...

I imagine the game will be class, which is the more important matter obviously. But still...

Looks pretty darn good to me. It's all game engine stuff by the looks of it. Arguably the hero + horse mechanic was ripped from Ocarina by SOTC, but if you listen to my dad then all games are essentially derivatives of Manic Miner anyway Laughing out loud

When I orginally saw the title, back when I was at college. In my computing lectures all the kids were going mad for it, but all I saw was like a lord of the rings clone.

I haven't been interested in this title once since it's launch, due to me reading that there's more than 80hrs of gameplay to be had. Which doesn't fit my life at all, due to the fact that some weeks I wont play games at all.

But over the past couple of days for some reason it's been put into my brain that I'll be purchasing it at launch. Which cannot be explained.... Puzzled

ginge, you played any 3d Zelda games?

'cos I think LOTR stole people riding on horses from OOT? (or possibly The Hoff had the idea first)

I played a lil' bit of wind waker, but got distracted by another game at the time (can't remember what) and I've never played any of the n64 games.

If the horses were in OOT then I'll let you off, but that big flame thing is so whored from lotr.

gingerj

but lotr was released after oot?!? :?

You're missing out on gaming nirvana.

Usually the games are blocked into 1 hour, 2 hour sections, with saves available kinda anywhere, but set to a check pointy kinda start point.

However, if you let yourself go, you'll play it non-stop forever and ever and ever.

Man, if your first Zelda game is going to be Twightlight Princess... ans if its as good as folk are saying... you may well combust. It's magic.

Point taken. The fact remains that exploring massive environments on horseback is cool, but not as cool as exploring massive environments on the back of a Dragon Tongue

Anyway this is all getting rather silly and reductionist. It's like my assertion that the Grand Theft Auto >=3 games are essentially Hunter on the Amiga with better graphics.

One thing I have to point out is that The Hoff invented both of these things. Infact after he finished flying around on the Dragon they sat down together and ate the last Unicorn in existance.

I think it hard to be original when riding horse across large open plains Laughing out loud

Still, Zelda is Zelda and comparisons are irrelevant with a game that is clearly going to have Hoff seal of approval.

I will have two weeks off recuperating from my mouth wounds. What better way to do it then immersing myself in hyrule.

Blind luck or cosmic karma/ You be the judge.

Oh, and when that music kicks in in the main trailer when he's riding Epona and sailing down the river, every single hair on my body is at complete attention.

Right -..... I did think briefly about putting some Eurobeat filth on there for the Initial D Heroness vibe (Sega Touring Car choons aswell as Initial D). I cant though - it's strictly Gabber! I want choons that fit MY Heroness, not Takumi's - and they MUST have a massively overdriven, drug fuelled, demon possesed bassdrum or I'm having none of it!

I do most of my watching at work with no sound, so I hardly ever get to hear what a game is like until I get it.

I refuse to believe anything can be as crapola as the butt rock in F355. I always play that game with muted sound. Although I secretly love the little guitar ditty that plays during the 'replay digest' Smile
