Thought I'd just bump this as there will almost certainly be some details materialising for this over the next few months. Needless to say everything is crossed that they don't fuck it up. My biggest questions at the moment is will it be an into the screen Sonic and the Secret Rings / Sega Superstars kind of Nights or will we be drawing paraloops on the screen with the Wii's pointer. How many years has it been?
SEGA aren't what they used to be, what with the recent cocking disaster of the newer Sonic games surely they should leave something like NiGHTS well and truly alone. I am curious as to how they implement the game's controls via the Wii Remote but it could end up painfully bad considering their recent track record.
I dunno man. Sonic Wii is actually pretty good. Not brilliant, but certainly fun. The Nights implementation in Sega Superstars was also not bad (although completely different to the original). It's true though that in general their non-arcade port titles have been a bit ropey of late.
Curious as to where they're going to take the A-Life concept in the original. Nightopians could be very 'smart' using todays tech.
According to unconfirmed rumors, NiGHTS began its life for 360 and PS3, but was later moved to Wii. The title is being developed by SEGA Studios USA and is set for a fall 2007 release.
Fuck... kittens have died and puppies around the world are upset etc.
Anyway you all deserve it. This is exactly what they did to me with the whole Gamecube and DS Starfox travesty - now you can sample my pain! BWAAHAAHAHAHAAHAA!!11
there is an incredibly depressing blog post from 'an industry insider' on this subject which is where these unconfirmed reports have come from. I really couldn't bring myself to post a link to it as I wanted to keep the flame burning for this game for as long as possible. If what he says is even half true this will turn out to be complete arse. Basically there's no buy-in to the project from Sega management. They're on a tight time schedule and budget and the game was originally designed around the PS3/360. Nothing short of a miracle will save it from being complete bobbins.
Still we've been blindsided before by some incredible games that looked like they should be utter tosh based on early reports (Metroid Prime anyone?) so I'm hoping that at the very least they can deliver a playable and enjoyable game even if it isn't quite finished.
It's one of the best titles on the Saturn. In a nut you fly about a 3D dreamscape, but locked to a 2D path. The objective is to fly through rings and collect these blue spheres called chips in such a way as to keep a chain going (called linking). You control the direction of Night's flight with the analogue stick and the A button gives you a limited boost/attack.
Clever bit is performing a complete loop damages enemies and sucks up pickups within the confines of the loop. Once you have collected 20 blue chips and returnd them to the Ideyla (sp?) then you get the remainder of the time to pick up bonus gold chips and build up your score still further. The course ends either when time runs out or you land at the pagoda that marks the start and finish of each lap. You're then given a ranking and the fixed path through the level is shifted to a different route.
As you can see it's sort of hard to explain unless you've played it. It's pure score chasing bliss, fantastic music, beautiful graphics and perfect control.
Soft Museaum level is still an amazing experience and probably my favourite level of the whole game. Mirrored walls and deforming terrain are just awesome.
There's also a sort of odd side objective in that you have the little Pians who populate the world and you can either attack them or make them happy, it uses a primitive AI system called A-Life to give these little guys some character (forerunner to the Chao possibly).

What next Burning Rangers 2? Now there's a game that could be absolutely class on the Wii. Point and shoot to put the fires out, control of main character on the nunchuck, plus voice comms over the remote's speaker. Job done.
