Clearly this is just a cynical way to shift more units. Bummer is I'm powerless to do anything about it. The only logical course of action is to purchase a brand new XBox 360 Arcade.

Is this outside of the warranty? My 2 year old elite red ringed on christmas day with no warning signs or anything otherwise to suggest something was wrong.
To tell the truth, I'll be seriously pissed if I have to pay to get it repaired especially considering, I've hardly touched it in the last 4/5 months.

Yeah it's 6 months outside the 3 years. I've converted it into a pile of bits already. Will try to 'fix' it using one of the methods on the web, but not going to hold my breath. Will probably pick up a cheap Arcade if I can and move the HDD over. Failing that an Elite would be nice, but expensive.
Mine's pre HDMI anyway and noisy as hell. A new one would address those two issues.
Yeah, I bought an Arcade one when mine died and just switched out the Memory thing on the top - wasn't too happy about it, but then I was skanking Zangiefs spin move for the GEES so I guess it was deserved...

I'd get a new 360 arcade rather than repair for sure, or maybe even a Pro (better value with the 60GB drive really). It would be worth it for the Jasper chipset, which is finally a reliable revision, and HDMI. Noise levels depends on your luck with the DVD drive.
Is the Pro still available? I thought they'd dropped that sku?
Really I would like a larger HDD now that installing to HDD is an option, but not sure I can justify the additional cost. There are so many bundle deals around at the moment. It's a nightmare to choose one. A bundle with Bayo would make sense, but the reality is that no major retailer will bundle with that game.
Will have to do a bit more digging around the major retailer websites...
There are still some Pros around, Tescos had a lot in just before Christmas.
Gamestation would probably have a bundle including a chart game from time to time, for Bayonetta.
amazon.co.uk worked out the cheapest for me when I got a UK machine. I think the Super Elite bundles are the best value overall, given the hdd size and two controllers packed in, if you can stretch to that. £230 on amazon with two controllers and Forza, guess you'd have to sell the game. The Arcade is a super cheap £110 though, no idea if thats a Jasper or not though. Still reckon a Super Elite would be worth it for the drive, extra controller and game.

I simply can't justify that sort of outlay tbh. I can make do with the smaller drive. 120GB drives are around 50 quid on ebay if I want to upgrade at a later date.
I'm thinking the £130 deal might be the one to go for Arcade + Wireless Entertainment Pack bundle. The WEP is worth about £40 so that seems reasonable. I have a little bit of cashola on a game loyalty card and gift card, so will probably get one from there.
In a world of infinite cash a Super Elite would be the way to go.
The Pros available over here have been Jasper since around last March/April from what I remember, but yeah not all of them are. You can check the current rating on the serial sticker to be sure though.
