All people seem to go on about these days is graphics, even though the machine they're using as a point of reference is archaic in that department next to a gaming computer. If the graphical fidelity is all gamers care about today - why on earth are they even bothering buying or even talking about a console? Save your money and buy a decent computer.
Throw something like a GTX590 into a decent machine and you've just jumped beyond the next console generation in terms of visual processing. Then you can obsess about framerates, resolution, anistropic filtering etc with some meaning behind it - because this is something you'll be constantly tuning.
I'm already there. I've got a 27" 3D Syncmaster to play this on too, but does it make games better? Not in the slightest.
Will be looking into the possibility of being plugged into Skyrim permanently - Matrix style, is that on the market yet? Also, read the Elder Scrolls novel "Infernal City" if you get the chance - it's awsum.
Man it's so predictable. We all knew Nintendo were going to bring it back to the middle (hardcore) gamers. This is exactly the reverse strategy of the Sony and Microsoft. It's hilarious. Wii cleans up in capturing the minds of the mases and then edges them back to more traditional gaming forms.
Looks like Nintendo have the complete package, if they can get their online sorted out. They need something that's as good as XBox Live. If they can deliver that then it could be a phenominal success.
Is it just me or is this the Sega VMU concept done right. I thought the concept of the VMU was utterly brilliant, if the execution was fatally flawed. This appears to address all of the short comings of that technology and if developers embrace it it has massive potential for mutliplayer gaming. As paper has said some of the best multiplayer games on the cube make use of the GBA link cable. More of that please
Nintendo have opened up the market to a whole new audience with the Wii. Now that they've caught these people, they're now stepping things up a notch and introducing them to a broader spectrum of content.
What I really would love to see is games like Sega's new Shining Force become popular with the masses. This new controller is absolutely perfect for games like Shining Force Cross and Monster Hunter. In fact ALL of Sega's touchscreen interface arcade games would be MINT on this machine - we could be a step closer to getting stuff like Border Break!

Border Break would be fucking perfect.
Nintendo have been very shrewd with the tech placement I think too. Most devs had a hard time handling the massively increased workload for the 360 and PS3, this is very true for art and animation. With another generation looming and multiple devs going under, a fair few will be pretty gun shy. Whereas the Wii U is pretty much a modern day console, so transitioning to that will be pretty straightforward and won't need a massive increase in staff/budgets to manage.
The backwards compatibility with the Wii is also a bloody good idea too, as it captures their previous marketbase at launch (Sony and Microsoft totally dropped the ball on that one for the PS3 and 360).
I like the way they've been incredibly coy about the gfx capabilities and are just pushing the fun, any clown can do HXC stuff, I mean an American software company and a HiFi company have managed it so far, how hard can it be?
Is that interesting to me, no.
But if all they have to do to get the percentages on their side with the Internet gfx centric reviewers and metacritic purchasing crowd (me, on the more generic titles) is to slam some middle of the road gfx at people in HG then why not, you could sneeze a HD console out at the moment.
The controller, which they haven't even bothered to name opens up the Zelda Four Swords Pac Man Vs angle nicely and must be an interesting route for Nintendo to go internally, also knowing Nintendo they might actually push the fact that with HD you actually have genuinely more real estate to generate FUN! I mean, come on its got all dem pixels, everyone just upscales their assets, its barely different to the PS2 days, except with more aliasing.
H'anyways, the new controller, I liked the new dimension idea, I can't see leaving the controller on the floor to find the lie of your ball in golf being particularly wise for the long term survival of the device, but opening a world up "around" you, making it a gateway to beyond/beside the screen is wild and genuinely interesting.
They haven't really covered the whole, how many of these screen controllers simultaneously or if its just one and everyone has to lump it... I can't see why they haven't pushed the concept with the DS and the Wii frankly, hey ho, maybe they've been sitting on it for a long time and wanted to get it right instead of just squirting Pac Man Vs at us again.
Nintendo don't seem to be able to converge their portable and TV game consoles at all, why the crap the DS isn't a controller for the Wii is madness, it just seems to make so much sense, especially with the 3DS, sure the console would be hideously expensive, but at the moment there are 100 odd million DS knocking about and not so less Wii, blah blah blah.
Nintendo need to get online up to scratch im not just talking about multiplayer they need all the downloadable side like demos and trailers and all that jazz
Another area that could be amazing would be a indie service people making little concept games with all the control options would be ace just look at the xbox indie service 99% dog shit but the other 1 % is amazing and batters most of the dribble that gets realised.
Haha, yeah. Crazy name. The launch video has lots of fun looking ideas in it.
This preview sounds really promising too:

It reminds me of Pac Man VS/Crystal Chronicles, with some PSP Remote Play. That controller combined with a HD console has me very keen.
You have to worry about the cost though - that controller can't be cheap.
I can see my mates kids LOVING this!!
I'd be happy with just this set up at a cheap price...
360 has made me a graphics whore...
*sigh* not you too...

It's definitely construction time again this year with Skyrim out in November. \o/

This is exactly how I've read this too.

Nintendo could properly clean up here I reckon.

The more rumours and what-not come out about the Wii-U, the more it seems the spec' coyness is down to the hardware not yet being finalised.
I think they must be hedging their bets, and waiting to see what the E3 reaction was as much as anything. Seems a little arrogant to me.

If you have any recommendations I'm all ears. I appear to have been stuck in the 99% of shit for a long time
