Wii Fit...put that hot dog down!?

It had to be done...

£70 in store gets you the Wii Balance Board, the game and a set of 4 AA battries to get you started. The board itself is very sturdy, quite heavy to hold and feels like it's made out of some quality materials. The 4 feet on the base of the board is where I'm assuming most of the calculations are done for the games.

It's thin enough for it to be slid under your sofa or TV too which is a bonus. I was wondering where I would store the damn thing when I got it out the box.

You start things off by selecting a Mii and colaberating the Wii Board which takes a few moments. Sync the board with the Wii and then switch it fully on, thats it!

You are introduced to the Wii board...and it talks to you... It goes through a few blurbs for what Wii Fit is all about, how it can help with your posture and calculating your B.M.I based on your height, weight and age you enter and then gives you a Wii Fit AGE based on all of that.

My Wii Fit age was 38!!!!! 10 years+ on my age now, FUCK! Laughing out loud I'm not gonna detail my full details here yet, but I have been activley sorting myself out a bit for the past few months anyway, hopefully this glorified videogame scales can help me track things at home. ;D But I think the BMI is off if you do actually do weight training and are a bit beastly, but still.

Things start with a few simple tests, mainly the body posture test. You stand on the board as you would normally and relax. Based on this, it calculates how your weight is distributed on to the board and tells you where you centre of gravity is. So after this quick little test, it tells you whether or not you are standing correctly.

You then get to see on screen how your weight is on the board, and you have to shift a red dot on the screen untill you can get it in the centre of the screen.

The next balance test has you shifting your weight from one leg to another. Your aim is to shift your weight enough depending on where the goals are on screen depicted by a blue block that varies in size depending on the stage. Smaller the block, the harder it is for you to try and maintain a steady balance with your weight. There's 5 quick stages to do and that lasts about a minute.

Things move on from here where you set targets for yourself, I can't remember whether it measures progress in weight loss or age loss... but I think it said 3 Ibs is the recomended weight loss it suggests at the most for every 2 weeks, although you can move that on up further.

Then on to the actual "game". ;p

You get to select between Aerobic Exercise, Muscle Conditioning, Yoga Poses, and Balance Games. I've only done Aerobic Excercises and seen Yoga poses from tonights play, I'll report back later. To keep track of your time and accomplishments in Wii Fit, after every game you see the Wii Fit Piggy Bank!

This keeps track of how long you've been playing the excercises in total since you started playing Wii Fit. The more you play, more mini games and excercises start to open up. I'll report on these later on.

Right, the games I played was Hula Hoops! Stand on the board shoulder width apart and you SHAKE YOUR TING. [/seanpaul]

This was pretty tricky when I first started and I only managed to get 16 spins! 3 goes later I got that racked up to 100! ;D

As you can imagine, just keep in rythmic time with the hoop to get it to spin around. You can go fast but careful not to go too fast as there are Miis in the background which throw further hoops at you. When a hoop is thrown, stop shaking your ass and shift your weight to that side, this will let you catch other hoops, up to 3. The more hoops you have, the more the Spin count multiplies with each succesfull rotation of each hoop.

My mum and dad were watching me play, and they were pissing themselves laughing throughout. From the Mii Creation (Mii Plaza) to me shaking me TING. First time EVER since Super Mario Bros on the NES had my mum even tried to play anything video game related. She only went and blasted my score of 100 with her score of 187! LOL.

My dad was laughing at my mum throughout, it was funny to watch but then he went a bit overboard based on the appearance of my Mum's Mii and her. She ended up saying...

"Hey hey hey, enough of that lip, how about you put that pint you are holding on the board and see how well it does."

Dad got silenced and went to the fridge for another Stella. XD I'll get him on this tommorow no doubt! Laughing out loud

Mum also tried out the Yoga poses one too, which seemed to be a lot more relaxed to play but involved alot of steady footing. The instructor would be talking throughout and my mum was able to follow the instructions without no outsider help. Breathing on some poses made a hell of a lot of difference and when she was faultering it would prompt you to steady yourself and slow your breathing down.

This once again could be seen on screen with the red dot in a target area. Keep it within the area and you are doing the excersises right.

That's all I've seen of it so far. Just waiting for my brother and his Mrs to come home and see what they think of it, it's a great family title if more then anything.

It's not somthing which I think ON IT'S OWN can help somebody get into shape, I think it's more of a stepping stone onto actual training in the gym and encouraging you to go on a diet. I think it will act more as some kind of guide for people at home to check their BMI and weight. Then through the use of Wii Fit and outside activities, you will be able to plot your progress visually on screen at home to see if you've progressed according to it at all.

Anyway, pretty happy with it at the moment. I can see this being a shit ton of fun with a house full of people watching.

I think as this thread grows, people should be posting their Wii Fit Miis as well as there B.M.I and Wii Fit Age if they want, and we can see if this kick starts anyone here into a more healthier and fitter route then they are on now.

Played this Saturday, and really enjoyed it. The jogging is very good, you have to genuinely jog on the spot to get the feel for it, but the speed control based on your movement is great.

The line dancing step thing is good too, nice and relaxing.

I became quite addicted to the ski jump, it has that Wii Sports pull of being deceptively simple but hard to perfect.

The whole package is super slick, and as you say the quality of the board makes it feel like decent value for money despite being pretty pricey.

I've been promised this for my birthday in June. I can tell you now though that my BMI is about 30 and that makes me obese.

This looks to be a hell of a lot more involved than I originally thought. Should be good fun and a bit of light excercise, which is never a bad thing.

wait until you feel the pain. oh my god the pain. i've done yoga before as well as resistance training, but this is pretty hardcore. keeping the centre of balance in some of the yoga poses is a real trial, the king of the dance springs to mind, the born again hard version of the press up is another that really busts out a sweat, pressing with my hands so close together on the board really works the triceps and the one handed part seems to strain juat about all ofg the upper body.

it's certainly got me working out again. anybody else beasting theyself with this? can you do the zazen meditation? wtf? hardcore gaming for those who cant be fucked with carjacking.

still hard at it. whilst this isnt most peoples idea of a game, its certainly got me putting a few hours in.

the only criticisms that i've got so far are that it doesnt suggest any kind of routine (other than every now and again suggesting an exercise to compliment the one you just did), many of the balance games seem a bit like tech demos rather than full games and that the art direction is pretty awful (from the gui to the in game graphics.....graphics on the wii are my new pet peeve, if the wii is more powerful than a gamecube or an original xbox, then why do most of the games i have have graphics that would be below par for either of those machines?)

THanks to a combination of exploding US Wii and Freeloader halting and Paper... I have had my first proper go on Wii Fit.

I broke an awesome sweat halfway through doing every single exercise available to me.

So it did its job!

Managed 40 wii fit minutes inducing sweat, and cursing.

Yoga is excellently tough.

My Wii Fit age is only a year above my real age, and y'know that was heartening.

Gonna try every other day... and maybe weigh myself once a day and buy a pink nissan micra convertable.

As a fat bastard I've still not really got into this. I need dedicated time and fewer excuses.

I think it's the lack of Sega characters in it...

The Yoga is properly tough... you might want maybe skip that for now.

There is an absolutely evil pressups thing.... just evil.

The tree is a bastard. I saw my friend doing those pressup thingies and nearly wet myself. He was properly sweating.
