Those 200-odd "reviews" for the PS3, you see them?
Reviewing a system that hasnt been released and which the general public has absolutely no idea about....
Nothing else I'm involved in is like this; you dont get people reviewing hardcore choonage before they've even been pressed to vinyl - the film industry I work in - people at least WATCH the fucking things before reviewing them!

Best thing i have eva played i have only got the demo but the graphics is perfect you can really feel the power of emotion and power
That Lik-Sang page is the pure undiluted essense of the people that dictate our passtime *slits wrist*

ROFLES there's some choice quotes on there. I think what you're seeing is the mindshit of teenagers. I simply won't believe that anyone over the age of 26 could think that way.

I think the spelling makes that a work of art.
Ive heard that the Playstation 3 has more processing power than some super computers like the Cray, is this true?
In order to wring every possible ounce of speed out of the machine, the entire chassis was bent into a large C-shape. Speed-dependent portions of the system were placed on the "inside edge" of the chassis where the wire-lengths were shorter. This allowed the cycle time to be decreased to 12.5ns (80MHz), not as fast as the 8ns 8600 he had given up on, but fast enough to beat his earlier CDC 7600 and the STAR. NCAR estimated that the overall throughput on the system was 4.5 times the CDC 7600.
The Cray-1 was built as a 64-bit system, a departure from the 7600/6600 which were 60-bit machines (a change also planned for the 8600). Addressing was 24-bit, for a maximum of 1 megaword (8MB) of main memory.

I find Amazon is a great place for entertaining reviews as well - take this musing on the Playstation 3 -
the ps3 is gona be better than a psp or any other consle i my self would like one when it comes out i hope ther will be a lot of colurs to chose from and a lot of games.
Better than a PSP you say? I'm intrigued.
Someone else has been kind enough to rate the consoles of the coming generation for me as well -
revolution: 10/10
ps3: 8/10
xbox 360: 7:10
Can't decide which one to buy now
Tribalism?
You do bizarrely see this in other environments, like I've been recently been doing some Mountain Biking, and there are brand zealots and tech zealots floating around there too.
There are probably Tesco and Sainsbury fanboys somewhere.
But yeah, alot of this is pre-pubesant mental facalties... no actually, during pubertiy I reckon.

Entertaining for sure, but also banal. Amazon I'm sure just let that spam collect there to boost links to their sales pages from search engines and games sites. Evil fuckers.
Still I'd like to say I was different when I was 12, but I'd be lying. I was 100% a Sir Clive whore. Still didn't stop me from enjoying the Amstrad 464 and C64 when I went round friends houses. Thank god the Internet hadn't caught on at that time. I could well have been one of those snivelling little shits bollocking on about how brilliant Elite was on the Speccy, cos it was the best at vectors innit.

I swear everyone is doing that
It's the cheapest and most easiet way to get unique SEO content...
I started out with the old Speccy, though I think I was a little more "mature" then having abandoned my teens a while before. I had great fun hacking the Elite save file to get all the goodies for very little effort. Took me a while to figure out what everything did.
It is interesting that you see reviews of games that have not been released here, on Amazon. I presume the writers have either got an import capable machine (not unlikely I suppose) or have their fixed ideas already on what the game is like.

I actually started on the ZX81, but that's a different story
Anyway you must be mid to late 30's, far too old to be playing games
. I'll be 30 in a few weeks...
I remember dabbling in BASIC on the Speccy, but never got to the level of hacking save files. I do remember plugging in the listings in the back of the mags you used to get back then. Such a shame that era has ended although Open Source projects provide a similar resource if you're prepared to put the effort in.
