This just reeks of quality. It's oozing from every pore. What's the release date for this one?
It looks like you can do some interesting things with the pointer too. Highlighting jump points for Mario to move between. It will be really interesting to see how it uses the other capabilities of the remote.
Did you see the bit with the apple and the catapillar! Class.
It does look Sexytime - I love the huge scale of it and the way you can fly about to the other little planets!
Did you see the video before with the big robot boss you had to pwn by - Attacking It's Weakpoint(TM) by leading Bullet Bills into that little fenced off bit?
It's all sick - we get Paper Mario next month aswell ennit! ^^

Paper Mario is looking heavy too. The whole 2D 3D thing could be the purest sex. I have high hopes for both of these.
It's nice to see Nintendo trying something a little different with Mario. They could have just gone for another 64/Sunshine affair and played it safe.
This looks to be more of a score attack type of affair to me, probably in the same ilk as night. Well, thats how its appears to me anyways. Ninty really are going old skool in there style of plays these days lol!

Having a closer look at the vid, it reminds me of the game pandemonium on the psx and saturn.
Boy does mario galaxy look crazy! Looks so damn imense yah gonna need to spark up a phat one jus to cool down after a sesh!

Fucking hell, that looks special. Cannot wait for this one. I'm already proper hyped about Paper Mario. Any more of this and I might explode.
Nights + Mario = AAA

Mario turns into a BEE?????

When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
Holy fucking moly - it just looks like so much fun; the fact that there's a pirate ship in it is just gravy.
Is anyone else struck by how fresh these pics look? I don't mean in a 'new' sense, but in a reinvigorated sense - it's as if Mario is well-rested & is back to tell it like it is.
Geoff D, I couldn't agree more.
I really can't wait to play this. I'm expecting this game to chuck out all manner of surprises. The screenies just raise more questions than answers. This could be the blueprint for a totally new twist on the platform genre. If Nintendo pull this off (and there's no reason to doubt they will) it's going to raise the bar for other devs, which is a good thing.
Then again it might be total bobbins. Nah it's going to be awesome isn't it
Am I correct in thinking that Nintendo have taken the brilliant void levels in Mario Sunshine and scaled them up for Galaxy? All the levels look really small and tight with less generic exploration and a greater platforming experience?
Or am I being a silly billy?

Oh wow. It looks fucking superb!

Man, its a brain bubbling boisterous backgammon of screens there....
Mobius!?!
Inifinite worlds!
There was talk of WiiConnect24ing extra levels... for the FUNS!
Is that 2 player co-op style stuff in the last picture?
Looking like I'm not going out at all during the month of November!

That video is mint!
- Bowser should just get over it and get another ho, building flying boats and spaceships just aint worth it for that slapper.
Have you seen the awsum they've put up on Gametrailers?

Both them vids are wicked, love the interaction they've put in. Can't wait. Bowser proper loves Peach tho innit, he like Sam Jackson in Black Snake Moan..."I got to keep you locked up Bitch! You aint right yet!!"

When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
wow! :jawdrop:
Spoilers ville though.
Gonna avoid all vids now.
I see that the non-disclosure agreements on previews seems to have ended as they've popped up all over the place now. There's a very common them amongst the few that I've skimmed though - that Galaxy is an incredible experience.
This is the big one for me - so many pretenders to the platform crown soon to disappear like tears in the rain...
Iwata ask some exciting Super Mario Galaxy questions:
You've said that requiring the player to jump in 3D is pretty outrageous in the first place.
http://3e8.org/writings/iwata-asks/super-mario-galaxy-vol-1.html
The assist play stuff sounds great. I wish more developers would publish interviews like this, I can't think of anyone else who discusses the games themselves to such depth.
they are somehow not unbeleivably pretentious... somehow, they manage to get this comaradery / family feel to the chats.
you wonder if it actually gets spun or vetted at any stage, I guess it must do.
it's totally different to Yamaguchi... but then he didn't exactly have the Internet to seem all warm and kirbbly.
was HAL labs always in Tokyo, seems like Iwata is silently shifting or expanding into Tokyo, I hadn't heard of Nintendo Tokyo until I read about Galaxy, they do mention Jungle Beat, and that was quite special. Nothing before that.
EAD has existed in some form for a while - the fat Mario in F-Zero X was called Mr EAD. Perhaps a chunk of it split off and moved to Tokyo.
I want to read a similar interview with Yu Suzuki, and find out what the Sega view of Virtua Fighter really is.
Yamauchi sorry. oops. racist!
Well if Nintendo bought Sega out... then umm, that would be.. umm interesting.
But there would be some Interviews with Iwata eh. up sides.
Loop Out Of.
This game is actually coming out... in l.. ike two weeks.
None of you chaps with Jpn Wiis have this yet then? I was hoping for some gushing impressions, followed by more gushing, with a soupcon of gushing for good measure.
I was going to get it but didn't bother in the end, I NEVER finish Mario games - I just stop playing after a few worlds and never go back to it.
I'm a bad person I know.
________________________________
You don't finish Mario games?
To the Wicker Man with you }:)
think I only completed Super Mario Land on the GB, I think...
I don't think you can complete Mario64... I whupped Bowser, but with minimal stars.
Oh and I maybe finished Super Mario World... everyone says Super Mario Bros. 3 is definitive, but, there always seems to be alot of game to get through, and even then, you've not finished it.
The amount of good shit I'm missing on the Wii is shocking, but I've put EVERYTHING on hold for this thing I'm doing for DMC4. They're being LONG with it though - the game comes out like SOON!
I want to play Zack & Wiki, Dragon Quest Swords, Soul Calibur Legends, Fire Emblem, Ghost Squad, Biohazard Chronicals and not to mention No More Heroes shortly after that >_<
I've also got Portal etc on the way in the post - and I know I won't get to play it either.
I downloaded KOF94 earlier off the Shopping Channel though, it's still sex.
________________________________
Ah man, I've been meaning to post about Portal... its an excellent slice of game... took few hours to complete the single player... which was very good, basically perfect... and then there are the additional puzzle rooms I haven't looked at yet.
I knew Portal just HAD TO be awsum - from that initial little teaser they did right up until now I've been gagging to play it!
________________________________
...its still, you know ... a ... first person shooter... but thats kinda unfair... its still a game, played from the first person perspective.
Dunno how it'll hold up on the pad, but the game doesn't have a frenetic pace or anything, so I doubt it'll be cumbersome it that way.
Funny, I think the teleportation angle is something that wouldn't be out of place in Metroid Prime... some of the puzzles in Portal, just scratch the surface of the potential of the idea...
I think that might be because, anything more that just the surface and your brain would very much and violently explode.
I spent some time with Galaxy & it is indeed a phenomenal game (so far at least) - the controls are beautiful; robust & responsive, & a lesson to others devs.
It's all so imaginative - it may sound obvious, but Nintendo have created a playing field in Galaxy, filled it with charm & joy & put up a sign saying 'open to all'.
A special mention must be made of the music - it's incredible, riffing on recognisable Mario tunes, but unmistakeably fresh.
Great stuff so far - an extremely enjoyable game.
Mine has been POSTED.... excited.
It must be on a barge from canada be now, being sunk by u-boats.
Mine's been shipped too. I can't ruddy wait.
Mine should be on it's way soon too - this import gaming business isn't so much fun when PALland gamers get there first
Mine should be on it's way soon too - this import gaming business isn't so much fun when PALland gamers get there first
My US copy arrived yesterday, fnar
You and your planning
I think some shops here broke street date and started selling them yesterday. Did anyone go to meet the voice of Mario at the Oxford Street GAME launch event last night?
nintendo are insane.
playing this feels like you are sitting upside down on the sofa with your legs in the air looking at the TV... and that makes it incredibly engaging as a consequence.
the only real thing to bug me at the moment is their loose definition of what a galaxy is... astronomically a bit off, they are really, er clusters, or solar systems... I dunno...
Super Mario Astronomical Clusters!
Simply breathtaking.
There are more ideas on levels of this than there are in entire games!
I've had this since launch and have been avoiding going to SMG threads across various forums just incase I ruined it for myself.
I have just finished the most wonderful game I have had the pleasure to play, and there is joy in my heart friends...joy. ^_^
Took my time, resisted temptation to go to "End Game" and final boss sequence and carried on till I cleared all of the Galaxies with quite a hand full of secret stars making my total up to 96. I ran around some of the incomplete Galaxies and was unable to catch the Prankster comets on them, despite me feeding that little pig star some star bits.
I was more then satisfied that I had done as much as I could without it becoming a game of hide and seek with the secret stars.
I will keep this as spoiler free as possible.
The final stage is absolute genius. Almost every trick and element that made some of the Galaxies so enjoyable was seamlessly linked together along with new parts to make one of the best levels in the entire game. It was challenging, it was fun and most of all you have so much control of Mario you can zoom past each section really quick giving you an amazing thrill and feeling of accomplishment.
The final boss and the ending sequence did not disappoint, I would go far as saying that it's one of the most satisfying endings I have witnessed. I feel the need to watch it multiple times, I might actually go back and redo it straight after I've finished this post. The final part of that ending...teasing me with the possibility of more awesomeness to come made the grin on my face stretch even further.
I love this game.
What Nintendo have done with this game is just brilliant. They've gone back through some great Mario ideas, sifted through them all, kept some and totally changed other conventions which they themselves created. Things like the gravity, the perspective you see Mario running around spherical and other oddly shaped planets, special costumes, low maintenance camera all coupled with quite frankly perfect controls to create one of the best platformers I have ever played. I can't remember how many years it's been since the last time I gave a crap about a platform game, probably since Mario 64 or Yoshi's Island. ^_^
I envy any child or adult whose first Mario game ends up being Mario Galaxy. I thought SMB, SMB3 and SMW had a huge impact on what I perceive to be great games and fun memories which have stuck with me for years, but this is on some next level because of all the new stuff they have applied to make this game. Greatness.
There are a ton of BRILLIANT levels and stars I am going to neglect mentioning right now and save for a future post, as I am on a very big high in completing the game. There are a few stars and challenges which make you feel that should not have made it in the game at all, it is inconsistent with the quality that came before such stars but overall it does not detract from the overall game experience. But it does leave you quite confused as to how those stars got in there. Although to be fair, the numbers of those stars do not exceed into double figures, but they do stick out in your memory. More on that later.
Credits have just finished rolling, I'm going to go back in and see if there’s anything new unlocked or cool to do. ^_^
I got sucked into this big time over the weekend.
It's pretty ace.
The fact that the stars are kind of bit size to get... and its so engaging, just that spin attack mechanic, the keneticism of it all when you hit those little star jumps, and the way you are reward with a coin for jumping on enemies because its more difficult that spin attacking them.
Even collecting star bits is good fun.
Why am I at work today!?
This game is pure perfection! Utterly sublime. I love my Wii.
Well finished this the other got all 120 stars and is easily my game of the year cannot find a single flaw anywhere in the game. For me it's the use of gravity on all the planet's which make the game and everytime mario files through the air it brings a big grin to my face. Brilliant game.
SPOILER!!!
Ice Dancing Mario might be the greatest innovation in games ever.
Don't want to get all down of this game... but I am finding the more "traditional" Mario 3D levels a real grind. So the water based tom foolery, and the Bee/Ghost mechanics, slightly dull, in a real traditional way y'know. Like they've been directly transfered from the off cuts from Mario 64 or Sunshine.
It seems "obvious" that spliting the game into Galaxies means they can deal development out to separate groups, you'd assume, and some of these people seem to have had there head in the past, as far as my tastes go. An entirely contigious world ain't gonna happen.
Still, I do like Ice Dancing mario, and thats borderline trad 3d stuff, so what do I know? It's just last night I was doing a collect'em up level on a water based level and it was tiresome.
Thats how I felt after 30 mins... not touched it again after the first 60
I'm sure there is enough great stuff in there though, but that first hour is a real chore and has put me off completely.
You'll miss out on Luigi sending you messages to your Wii Message Board. And the fantastic animation of background Luigi celebrations when you get a star with him. "It's a me Luigi" in a quiet voice is brilliant.
At the moment it feels like 20% of the game isn't trying hard enough.
When I hit that first Bee level, right at the start, I kinda sank, but I've not hit another set of levels quite so inane until 60+ stars in.
