Made by Starfox fans using a Freespace 2 mod. Never played Freespace so don't know what the handling and all that gubbins are like, but at the very least this looks interesting. I daresay without Nintendo's guiding arm it may well suck, but hey, at least someone has finally done something in protest at the crap direction the later games have gone in. Demo soon, apparently.

I can not view here movie from work but I would think it is typical of fan base that has completely missed the point of the original games, no? Just like Nintendo have with recent games. But I look forward to watching it when I get free time later thank you Smile

This is how I felt about it - it's pretty to look at but it's not Starfox in any way whatsoever, just like every Starfox game since Starfox64! T_T

Hmm judging by the movie I'd say you're not too far of the mark there Sebastian. It looks sort of like Wing Commander or something.

Nothing about it looks like it's on rails with waves of enemies Sad

Aye, Starfox is only Starfox when it's on-rails. Sadly I don't think we'll ever see another on-rails incarnation though 'cos it's not what the kids want. We can always dream though...

All I'm hoping for is that they hurry up with the Virtual Console release of the two Starfox games, I'll be more than happy to play Starfox64 forever.

They keep being horrible to us about it though, like the incredible credits sequence in Smash Bros DX and the minigame in Wario. Starfox is what I wanted most of all on the Cube and with this wicked new controller it's criminal we'll never see a proper one on the Wii either Sad

VC release of the first two would be mint, but I still want a new one!

On-rails, natch, with nunchuck control for the ship and the remote providing the targeting. Or, if that doesn’t quite feel right, perhaps everything mapped normal joypad style. Actually, stuff all that, just build it around the classic vc pad and make it proper retro, just with online capabilities and additional downloadable levels every week (Starfox Friday? Got a ring to it.) Miyamoto – make it so!

Thing thing about the remote+nunchuk is that you have loads more control input possibilites without piling in loads more buttons. Like if they came out with a worthy successor to Starfox64 and based it around the same system you've got buttons and motion inputs to spare which they can do what they want with - it's not like it's constrictive to creativity.

Downloading different enemy waves/variations of placement within existing stages....could be something really special there, especially with online score attack. It could be SO damn special - but I bet you if we do get a Starfox game it will be mission-based-multiplayer-pisspatch.

It does my head in - ALL of Nintendo's other franchises have stuck to their roots, Metroid is still Metroid, Zelda is Zelda - it's because I love Starfox so much they keep doing this. So racist -

It's not so much the farming out of Starfox that grates rather the choice of developer. Forgive me if I go a bit Sega fanboy here, but just how amazing would a Sega (possibly AM2) Starfox game be? If there's one thing Sega know how to make it's on-rails shooters. They're the bloody masters at it.

Where on Rare and Namco's CV have they demonstrated any skills at developing this sort of game. It's insane. Just stop fucking about Nintendo and give it to Sega already, if you can't be arsed to do a proper job yourselves.

Sega also have the rather annoying habit of completely stuffing up quality franchises though - the Sonic series is getting beyond a joke. But you're right - they've got the staff to make it work, particularly if they use some of the bods who worked under the Smilebit name on Orta - that was kickass.

Or get Treasure to have a stab at it. They farmed out a Wario game to them on the GC not so long ago which turned out alright. And it's not like they don't know their shooters...

Yeah Treasure would also be a good choice. You can't dis with what Sega did to F-Zero though Wink

That's what I was going to say - when it goes well you get F Zero GX! Imagine a Starfox with the same production values and attention to detail as GX, with the gamesystem built from Starfox64 the same way as GX's is from X.

But no - we'll get 3D arenas built around the rubbish N64 multiplayer mode, complete lack of Peppy Hare and far too much of that slut Rare character flashing her shit about the galaxy like she's Sharon Stone.
