Well, Sonic and the Secret Rings had about 2 and a half decent levels... if they've managed to understand that, and which those levels were, they might be onto something.

The implication from the trailer is that the sword is merely a tool for some sword-fu cutscenery, and quite pomp-obviously implies that the combat in 3d (or any sonic) involves hitting things a bit until they fall over, next up, vases, feather dusters and mime...

Sonic and the Ken Dodd

I have a horrible feeling they've created some kind of Sonic game middleware level designer though...

I am bizarrely quite interested in "and the Black Knight" I managed to haul myself through "and the Secret Rings" without too much personal torment... it had its moments...

First Shadow with a gun, and now Sonic with a sword.

I'm tired of this. Sega has, in Sonic one of the most enduring gaming mascots since Mario, with a universe that is potentially just as ripe for mining. However, since the Megadrive (the last decent Sonic games), it's as though Sega haa done its best to drive Sonic into the ground.

Yet everywhere you go on the net, all you hear is gamers talking about how they'd love to see a traditional, "return to form" Sonic game again, and yet this is exactly the kind of game Sega refuses to make! It was recently asked about the prospect of a 2D Sonic a la Mega Man 9 but flatly declined (even though it would sell really well).

I'm convinced Sega actually WANTS to go under.
