My head's blowing up over this game! The daily updates on the official site are brilliant;

http://www.smashbros.com/

Remember how many tropies there were in the Cube version? It was like having a huge collection of Nintendo figures - now the tropies actually aid you in a fight!

Like this Torty

I love how the game saves each player's control preferenses under his/her username on the character select screen. Also the way you can use any Wii control option to play the game (remote (sideways), remote+nunchuk, Cube Pad or Classic Controller) - this is gonna be epic stuff!

AND SAMURAI GORO IS SELECTABLE!!! Shocked

Posted: Mon, 02/07/2007 - 09:46

It broke my heart when I read today's update properly, and realised Goro was only an assist trophy Sad

But yeah, there's no way I'm not buying this. I still love playing Melee/DX, 5 years after I bought it..

Aw man - I thought he was a full-on character, I didnt read the last paragraph! XD

It's all good though - Bio Rex trophy FTW!!1 Evil - plus it's guaranteed we'll still have ffFFFALCONNNnn PPAAARRRNNNCCHHH!!!11 to play with!

This game cant come out soon enough ^^

YESS!

Smash Bros on the GC was one of my most played games. I only had 3 Trophies left to collect on that, and they were the hardest ones to get, can't remember the criteria but after 2 years of playing...Defeated. >_<;

The thing that they have not even mentioned yet is the single player "Adventure". On the GC version, they had you running platform style through each of the characters theme worlds using the Smash Bros platforming\fight Engine. Now...I know I will probably setting myself to get uber dissapointed, but imagine if they used actual area using the actual game engines for characters in adventure mode. Don't know how Mario in a 3rd Person PRIME Samus suit will work, or Kirby driving around Mute City...xD But that's not my job! xD

I'm sure it will be amazing whatever they come up with though. Oh...oh...OH...!1111111111

=

WHAT?! That is a PERFECT FIT! TOO PERFECT! Please be true! LOL

These Assist characters have just ramped up the roster x100! All the characters that won't make it onto the main roster will atleast be in here in some shape or form acting as Strikers MvC\KOF style!

Team Ouendon? Wario Ware Dudes? THE BOWSER KIDS FROM SMB3!!!? Tom Nook...comes on stage and mortgages your life away...insta death! xD Shit, that's not even taking into consideration 3rd Party characters that can be involved with this! Jawdropping!

Ninty's back catolog is massive, the more obscure and wierd additions the better! It's gonna be like the ultimate pokeball!

Man, if they don't have 8 bit Megaman in there in some form! XD If they do...then I want all the bosses to do some sort of "Knights of the Round" Striker attack. xD

The control of Smash Bros was just perfect, I played it to a level where I could use the standard skillz, but I never got into or even realised stuff like wave dashing etc. Shield parrying, deflecting, Sheild rolling, Air Dodge, throwing\catching toomany things!

Still nothing better then being smashed off stage, only to make it back and catch onto the ledge *Audience Gasp!* only pixels away from falling to your doom! Laughing out loud Tell a lie...what's better then that is to jump off the ledge yourself and grab onto the side so the other player falls to his doom...bwahahaahaa.

Oh yeah...this game is meant to be online too?!

I need to lie down...shit, boss is coming. :|

Edit

lol Kirby's face! ^______________________________________________^

Edit 2

That comic is WELL WRONG! lol *enters url for more...*

I'm in the same boat man -

In the Saur household we played standard skills (well) - but there's a whole new level you can take the game to when you learn the advanced movement and stage manipulation. I simply didnt know! It was only when youTube came along and I saw all the tournament matches - it's like watching a totally different game.

This time round I'm getting well into the crazy movement from the very start - I've dabbled quickly with the wave-dashing on the Cube but find it difficult still, but I at least got the basics down.

I'm curious as to how they're going to do the "remote-only" control option. He mentions there arent enough buttons and motion control was going to compensate, I'm dying to find out what they come up with.

Can you say, old school NES two button mash for another button, can you?

Nice!

I had a look at that the other day - LOVING the Giga Bowser transformation and new stages aswell!

So now you have 3 strength types for attacking - regular strike, hard strike AND Smash. Plus you've got the "halfway" up or down on the analogue + attack for lighter versions of sweep and launcher....

They've been purposely coy about the remote regarding the motion controls they've added to compensate, you have block and evade (which are two separate functions) to add aswell.

This game is gonna pwn so much! T_T

WIN!!!11

Giga Bowser still aint as 'ard as Alan though - Alan is ROCK!!11 Laughing out loud

LOL Sim City guy. xD

Read through some of the older updates on the site...

Quote:
Wario: Special Moves

Wario’s side special move is the Wario Chopper. He jumps on and starts racing!

Vroom! Vroom!

Tilt the Control Stick in the opposite direction of your movement to pull a 180. Use an attack button to jump off.

Axle turn!

Only one motorcycle will appear on screen, so if you fall off, run back up to it and climb on again.

Where’s my hog?!

Oh, and Wario’s down special move is the Wario Waft. That is to say, he passes gas.

This particular special move builds up power the longer you go without using it.

If you haven’t held it in, [b]it’ll be a cute little poot.

But when you hold it in as much as you can...?!

In this case, patience really is a virtue.

BIKE!!!! CUTE POOT!!!! BIKE!!!! CUTE POOT!!! XD

Laughing out loud

More Kirby and Wario awesomenes Laughing out loud

Can't wait for the Nintendo Conf, I just KNOW they will announce a few more returning and secret characters. I really...REALLY believe that they will unveil Sonic as a secret character...they got to!

Sonic would be too much XD. I'm still hoping for some Streets of Rage characters in there. Let's hope they'll be some more details surfacing soon, this game sounds insane, once again the Wii is draining me of disposable income.

No Waluigi yet -

The announcement today was for the ol' N64 pinball style bumper which you can place to screw the opponents up.

This is right up there with DMC4 for games I'm clucking to play - Smash Bros is 100% pure fan service that just so happens to play like a dream. I really should get back on the Cube version...

Yeah, that's a bit odd isn't it. I thought the trophies were sort of like strikers, maybe it's a sort of pokemon colosseum type affair?

If there are any Sega characters announced for this game I think my anticipation level will explode.

Does that mean you can a Neo vs Smith esque battle fighting into space?

Or do'ya reckon its one jump then it cancels?

JibberX

JibberX's picture

Posted: Thu, 26/07/2007 - 14:36

I think it's just 1 jump - normally. Doesnt mean that you cant screw with it loads by manipulating the controls though. Like the short-jumps and wavedashing you can do in the Gamecube one by air-evading downwards immediately after a jump.

You might be able to cancel air attacks into a jump aswell - like if you land an aerial attack you can then jump off the opponent. That will make the games you play when trying to get back onto the stage (or stopping that person) even deeper.

Adventure Mode Revealed!

Quote:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary is a robust side-scrolling action game!

- This is the Subspace Emissary! -

More than anything, Smash Bros. is a competitive action game. People have been kind enough to praise its multiplayer, but we’ve never been able to create a fully fleshed out single-player game.

This time, though, we’ve managed to create a complete side-scrolling action game. It’s storyline isn’t overwrought—it’s hastened along by a bunch of quick movies.

The Adventure mode also emphasizes character development. You’ll see many famous characters persevering under the weight of their personal histories, shouldering their unique burdens... It’s really something you won’t see anywhere else.

With so many wonderful characters appearing together, it’s like a dream action game. We’re putting tons of fighting spirit into making this game, so I hope you’re all looking forward to it.

Oh, and this is all included in the same Game Disc, so rest easy.

This is all looking rather bloody good isn't it. I'm new to the Smash game, so I've taken Melee away with me to get some practice in and pick up the basics. Few things that you heads might be able to help me with.

1. Is there any point to the one player game? Do I unlock additional characters and environments by playing it. Do the trophies do anything at all?

2. How much time based unlocking is there? I got some odd message about Mushroom kingdom 2 being avaialble with a date next to it?

3. Basic movement primer as I watched the How to Play thing and just went WTF? Are people using the stick or the buttons to jump? Tell me more about this half direction thing as that's not mentioned in the tutorial. Basically I'm completely lost.

Madbury

Madbury's picture

Smash Bros is the stuff of Legend!

Every single mode in the game will unlock you loads of goodies, there are so many of them it's impossible to list them all out. Better than having a look at the guides for what's unlocked I suggest just trying to get better at every little game in there and you'll be blown away at how much stuff they've put in.

I dont suggest using the stick to Jump - it's all about precision, also bear in mind that you have a halfway-up and halfway-down on the stick + attack for a launcher and sweep. That little tutorial is fine to start off with for movement but there are untold levels of movement, have a look at this vid;

(Wavedashing is DA SHIT!)

How much more WIN can they cram into this game!?!?

The Pokemon Trainer character does'nt fight directly, he issues commands from the background - instead you tag weapon-switch style between 3 characters.

That's just nuts. I just can't get my mind around this game. Sega need to get back into doing mashups and fast. We need a new Fighters Megamix.

NOW back On Topic. That sounds like King of Fighters + Pokemon x BIG FUN There better be more than one trainer so you can have trainer vs trainer match ups, each with their own pokemon. The tactics would be immense. Shocked

Sounds like a great character! I'm pretty sure they wouldn't neuter a character like this if you couldn't chain the pokemon attacks togeather too. ^_^ RAPIDNESS! \o/

Wonder why they didn't go with a character from the cartoons though? If it was Ash, they were prolly bothered about him having\not having Pikachu with him.
