Looks like a cross between Outrun 2 and Daytona to me.

Hmm looks a bit iffy. Which team are on this one? I shall reserve judgement until I play it, but underwhelmed by the look and concept tbh.

Shocking.

I love the look of it. The tracks are big, bold and ful of character - just what I'd expect from a Sega racer. The slipstreams have great potential too. It would be cool if you couldn't win without making use of them.

Aye, looks fab.

I'm already imagining how it is in motion...getting a Outrun and Crazy Taxi with a hint of F Zero GX (check on pg3 of the pics, that corner feels familiar!) kinda vibe from it all. Smile

I've also got the Cannonball Run theme song running in my head looking at that pic where they are bombing it down the highway next to a truck. If they don't have a sheik announcing proceedings, or atleast an orangutang in a limo...i'll be slightly dissapointed.

90 Degree Powerslides, F Zero GX like Speed Boostage, SPEED...Cheesy America and crazy japanese announcer? It can't fail!

My hunches were right! \o/

Thanks for the video...that looks awesome, kinda like a Segafied version of Sanfrancisco Rush.

Fingers crossed for a 360 port.

Ah OK. That looks more interesting in motion. I´m coming around to the idea...

I was at ATEI today (security is nowhere near as tight as their website implied; I met someone whos namebadge stated they were CEO of Umbrella Corp) and I'm too lazy to even attempt to type coherently, so here are some chatlogs! Believe it or not, I actually edited this down quite a bit.

[18:17] Chris: I got into ATEI
[18:17] Chris: you know those crane game things where you have to try and grab cuddly toys with a crane?
[18:17] Chris: and you can never ever win them?
[18:17] Richard: yeah
[18:17] Chris: they had one of those full of sweets and it was on free play
[18:17] Chris: wooooo
[18:18] Richard: hahahahh
[18:18] Chris: so good
[18:18] Chris: im full of sugar
[18:19] Richard: was the rest of it good?
[18:25] Chris: Sega Race TV is this new sega game
[18:25] Chris: and the visual style = basically make everything as piss-takingly USA as possible
[18:25] Chris: there are 2 commentators that sound like john madden or something
[18:26] Chris: one of them has massive muscles, US flag-design clothes and has huge sunglasses
[18:26] Chris: one eye is tinted red/white striped, the other is blue w/ white stars
[18:26] Richard: hahahahahaahahhaa thats incredible
[18:26] Chris: and they're constantly whooping and hollering and stuff while you race
[18:27] Chris: and huge 18-wheeler trucks get lost and drive all over the course at one point
[18:27] Richard: wow
[18:27] Chris: and you've got a Boost thing that sends you flying forward at a jillion miles an hour for 5 seconds
[18:27] Chris: and it recharges every 10 seconds or so
[18:27] Richard: cooooool
[18:28] Chris: and there are jillions of ramps and stuff
[18:28] Chris: and if you boost off a ramp you automatically do a barrel roll
[18:28] Richard: hahahhahaha
[18:28] Chris: and if you boost into the back of another player you send him flying about 50 feet into the air, flipping all over the place
[18:28] Richard: haha
[18:28] Chris: and if you crash or get flipped into the air or whatever, it automatically refills your boost meter so you can immediately get back to full speed
[18:29] Chris: and it's 4-player
[18:29] Richard: hahahahahahahhaha
[18:29] Chris: oh
[18:29] Chris: and the black character goes the Ali G finger snap thing every 10 seconds
[18:29] Chris: especially while drifting
[18:29] Chris: oh, that's a point
[18:30] Chris: you can drift at 90 degrees to the road pretty much whenever you want
[18:30] Chris: it's hilarious
[18:33] Chris: also every so often a little TV screen appears in the top corner of the screen
[18:33] Richard: hahahaha
[18:33] Chris: and it'll show the huge bridge opening (so you get to boost off it the next lap) or trucks bursting onto the track or boulders rolling down the track or whatever
[18:33] Chris: or ICE WORLD opening and everyone being diverted there
[18:34] Chris: there's part of a track that's made of ice
[18:34] Chris: !!!!!
[18:34] Chris: you get to drift on ice!!!
[18:34] Richard: this sounds like the best game ever
[18:34] Chris: but anyway, sometimes that TV screen says BOOST BONUS!!
[18:34] Chris: and a counter starts counting down from 5 to 0 or whatever and the commentators are getting so so so excited
[18:35] Chris: and then it's all GO!!!!! BOOST!!!!! and there's a 2-frame animation of the sunglasses commentator being pushed back into the seat of his car while repeatedly mashing his boost button with his right hand
[18:35] Richard: HA
[18:35] Chris: and for the next 20 seconds or whatever, everyone has INFINITE BOOST
[18:35] Chris: it's joke
[18:35] Chris: I need to get more people from uni to come with me, it's probably the best multiplayer game with friends
[18:36] Chris: also there are speed boosts and boost meter refill sections all over the track, like F-Zero GX or whatever

Don't expect it to be an amazing game. There's a reason I didn't talk about the actual mechanics of the racing much; it's more Mario Kart than (your favourite racing game). You never have to let go of your accelerator, and most of the skill seems to be in slipstreaming everyone and managing your boosts.

But still, if you can get a 4-player race going it's so fun Smile

GOtta be better than Ford Racing... that almost got a physical violent reaction from me.

Fully Blow (apt title) is awful. This on the otherhand sounds like utter madness.

First Lindberg racer too I think. Bodes well for more titles if they've got the cabs out there to take them.

Frankly I could spend all day playing Too Spicy and milking the card machines.

Is your username anything to do with your surname?

yeah thats his name pretty much.

SegaRaceTV though, was not immediately anything really, and sent me into a spiral of arcadian dispair. It just feels like SEGA's pod racer game, with cars and aload of presentational bollocks layered on it.

Difficult to find anything of any merit, it almost feels like a check list game development, so you've got the licenced cars, brash presentation, NITROUS (boost) and wide, wierd tracks. Y'know sometimes Sega actually has a game underneath, but I haven't found one yet.

Hehe, yeah that was probably me. Shame, would have been good to trade stories over a beer or two.

Race TV was pure fluff. I have to confess that I wasn't really feeling it. Don't get me wrong it's quite fun, but it seems to lack the layers that characterise the best arcade titles. I'll be giving it a another go when it eventually appears in the wild.

When I left ATEI I had to run straight to uni (coincidentally, seeing you lot made me realise I'm probably one of the younger people on here Tongue ), and after that I didn't have any free time whatsoever until last night. It's a pity you weren't here on Tuesday when I had nothing better to do in the evening than watch the football Sad

And yeah, I played Sega Race TV a bit more on Wed/Thu and as hard as I tried and as much as I loved the presentation I really couldn't find any substance in the actual racing. I spent most of Wednesday playing Outrun 2 SPDX instead, and I had far more fun.
