Saturday just gone; 25th August, there was a Retro gaming doo in Glossop, Derbyshire. As I only live 15min away from Glossop I decided to buy a ticket and attend, and drag me Dad, our Dave and a mate Mark along too.

I decided to take an xbox with SFIII: 3rd Strike plus TV along to represent Laughing out loud

Got there about an hour or so late (A6 delayed Dad) but got there and it was packed! All the 100 ticket allocation had sold out and despite just a few unforseen cancellations last minute most people arrived.

There was absolutley everything in there from Specturm and Jet-Pac to JPN white Saturns with Radiant Silvergun as well as a few MAME cabs! Cocktail, standing and tabel-top cabs to boot. Tremendous stuff.

Jim Miles of rllmuk turned up from Cambridge for the fighters as well as Willei of GHZ and rllmuk from Nottingham. Spotted the pair immediatley on a Neo-Geo playng KOF'02. Another guy Dan who also partook in the beat 'em ups showed up! Jim and Willei were waiting for me to turn up with 3rd Strike and it went on pretty sharpish, Hori sticks and Magic-Boxs were primed (Saturn pad for me ^_^ ) and it was pretty much what we played all day >_< Willei, Jim and Dan gave me a dam good hiding at the game once they'd adjusted from the bordered PAL KOF. Jim's Urien I couldn't touch and his Yun and GJ was much the same. Willei played a fair roster of the cast and gave me loss after loss as well. Then Dan came on and battered me with Ken and his Elena, I don't think I got a round off her Sad

Everything on display was on free play to everyone, me Dad was giving Jet-Pac a fair shot for the high-scores and got cramp in his hand for the trouble. I believe he was pestering the bloke who owned the cocktail cab to put more credits on so he could get a high-score on Galaxian. Couldn't reach his old days of reaching into the wave 30's.
Our Dave was on Guitar Hero which was on the projector; nice and alsodcompletes Mario Bros. on the NES about 3 times.
I did bring Guardian Heroes along and went to a Saturn that was set-up for a 2P mash-up with Willei but were beaten to it by someone else who loaded up...Resident Evil? Never quite got to put it on in the end. Next time.

What was funny was that the TV's in use were really modest, small one's, more than adequate but the TV we had 3rd Strike and KOF on was really dark and so we decided to swap it for the one I brought. It's the only TV i've got but also twice the size of everything else. Really embarassing lugging it in with a few raised eye-brows, fit in though Laughing out loud You can see it in some of the pictures further down.

Ste Pickford attended as well and gave a Q&A session but there was mic & feedback issues which made it hard to hear him. But was interesting nonetheless.

Food was good, bar had a great guest ale and a bloke from console passion was flogging his impressive wares and modding ^_^

If you want pics from the day there should be some going up soon on the website retronorth.co.uk.

Otherwise these 2 threads have pic's from people on the day:

Some choice pictures though:

On the left with the sticks and big TV, Willei and Dan hidden behind. At the back in the black polo with white stripes is Keith who organised it. Standing up in the middle behind Willei and Dan is me Dad, mate Mark with the tan coat watching our Dave complete Mario Bros. again.

Me in on the way back to the 3rd Strike set-up and noticing the camera to late for a JoJo pose.

Jim Miles stood up on the right on Soul Calibur on the DC.

Our Dave watching Keith Leutner (organiser) on Guitar Hero. My mate Mark was pretty awe struck watching folk on Expert. Couldn't believe his eyes Laughing out loud

I saw this advertised, too much of a trek for a lazy pseudo-Southerner like me Smile

Looks like a nice set up, always liked the fact these were ran for charity:

Hope that projector saw something more entertaining than a PS2 though Wink

Did you enter any tournaments or competitions?

There were competitions planned but sort of got left behind as the day went on and I was going to run a wee one on 3rd Strike but completely forgot. The Amiga saw some impromptu comp on Pinball Dreams and Project X though. Oh and SFII as well.

Someone put on Typing of the Dead for DC as well with 2 DC keyboards and watching that was hilarious. Just such a brilliant idea for a game Laughing out loud

Rocking out Typing of the Dead is always a winner if people haven't played it before Smile

It's the only game the missus can beat me on. I have to tactically escape out of words to even get close to her scores.

This looks like great fun. I didn't even know this was on. I'd be well up for going to the next one given enough notice and a bit of planning Smile.

There's a strong chance there'll be another one next year and there's talk of more similar sized regional efforts spread throughout the year, a Retro Midlands for instance is being discussed.

Jim Miles imparting some sage advice to myself, which I forget Laughing out loud

Willei typing like his life depended on it, well it does!

Me Dad defeating the waves in Galaxian.

Jim Miles takes on Dan's Chun Li.
