OH SHIT!
Resident Evil 5 demo is up on the JPN market place. You can grab it from the JPN marketplace if you've created a Japanese account on your US\UK systems but it seems like they might have started doing some IP checks.
But no fear, follow this guide from my mate Hank, and it's legal!
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=fdf4f1773666296791b20cc0d07ba4d2e66f2dcbbe596359
- download the five rar parts
- extraxt them
- this will get you one (1!) folder named "content"
- burn this folder to a cd
- insert cd into 360, it will show up as "mixed media"
- navigate to "my xbox", "demos"
- click & play!
I'm just downloading it now. My guts are cramping hard because I want to do this NOW!

Just finished playing both scenerios of the demo, apart from early demo build issues aside, I cannot wait for the full game.
Theres a lot familiar with Resident Evil 4 as we all suspected but they've cranked it up a few notches in places. The enemies are much more ruthless and I bet in the demo they are on "mild". In the Shanty Town scenerio especially.
In Res 4, and especially in the Mercs game you could find yourself a corner and just take on hoards of enemies while you protected your patch. I tried to do the same on this multiple times but enemies were running to the left, right, climbing up and falling from above as well as just all of them throwing axes and themselves at you. I'm gonna see if I can still do that in consecutive play throughs but the few attempts I've had so far, my crowd managment has been rubbish!
Even when things were quiet, I got caught out a few times by an unsuspecting enemy running up behind me and getting me in a full nelson (neck grip\lock)!
The two "bosses" both did me over really quickly. I managed to uppercut the Axe Dude a few times and set him on fire, but he seems to be indestructible. I tried to surprise attack the chainsaw guy...well, because I'M CHRIS REDFEILD WITH 20 INCH PYTHONS...BITCH...but I got slain for a joke.
Went back trying to time my shots so the nicely placed barrels will explode right near one of them, but there was alot working against me in both scenerios.
First scenerio there were too many entrances and paths for the enemies to get to me, as well as the boss being able to destroy pretty much any cover you was running away behind.
On the 2nd scenerio the alleyway where he ambushes you is so narrow, you panic as other enemies start clambering over a wall as you retreat from the chainsaw dude.
Basically, shit was still intense even with a partner aiding you all the time.
The "God Hand" dodging doesn't seem to be in, just seems that Chris just has a lot more Quick Time attacks then Leon does for enemies in different animations. Be they on the floor, on their knees, staggering back or facing away from you. I did find that shooting them in the foot almost gaurantees 100% Grand Upper love!
The partner AI is decent too, easy to get her to pick and move things as well as getting her to rescue your ass with well placed kicks to enemie's head.
The inventory can be quick assigned to the 4 d-pad directions making selecting weapons, healing and giving ammo to your partner much easier.
Thought it was pretty awesome the inventory was real time, but using the D pad was much easier to use then hitting Y and then double tapping A to equip a weapon. Bit like how you can select guns in Gears of War.
Oh and...RESI 5...it has STRAFE!
But, and I am glad about this as I am sure I argued how it would make the game easier if you could constantly move and shoot, you still can't move and shoot.
You can get your positioning right before you do, and it seems like they really needed it here because of all the narrow pathways and parts in the demo where you need to strafe inorder to get direct shots on enemies in the distance.
Otherwise you can just imagine a lot of faffing with people quick turning and then turning on the spot to get the perfect angle for a shot.
All that said...Wii version controls on this would be better. ;p
Thanks for the link, downloading this now. Hope it works: I seem to have terrible luck with anything technical.
Extracted the RARs. I got two error reports and empty folder.
Is this a con, Singho?
download all 5 Kaladron. Then click one of the rars and move the folder onto the desktop. Then burn the folder to a CD as a data disc.
Put it in the 360, scroll through to "demos" and job done.
Hmm. RAR 3 seems to be the problem, as it only downloaded about 30mbs. Will redownload and try again.
Told you I never have any luck.
Finally got the demo to work and played a bit of co-op with my housemate. The demo's a bit short but it sure is fun. Good stuff.
Thanks Singho ^_^ downloading this now...
I know there's still a hell of a lot of tweaking to be done but as it stands based ont his demo - the game isn't half as fun as RE4.
It's the controls; on the Cube and even the Wii the controls quickly melt away and you can move the character like an extension of yourself. Not so here, (the FPS style 2-stick controls are the work of the Devil) but based on the "RE4 inspired" control setup the game is so damn difficult to play. Nothing ever feels instinctive, compared to RE4's tight, almost beat em up like precision this feels like a western action game; it's clumsy and over-cluttered with button functions.

I always got the feeling that RE4 was trying to be an FPS but failed... I guess they've got it right this time eh?
No way! RE4 is 100% a mechanics led GAME, it's nothing like an FPS. The system has loads of brilliant little quirks and the MESS you can cause with Leon is the stuff of legend.
This is the complete opposite, this time they're obviously trying to appeal to the western FPS crowd and the game suffers massively for it. The RE4 style controls are far too cluttered with everything they've bolted on and the FPS style controls render the game unplayable.

I had a feeling this was gonna be a bit rubbish. Back to the Cube then!

When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
Hmm not had a chance to try this out yet. Got the folder sitting on my PC waiting for a burning...
RE4 was special because of the fixed position ranged combat and the way you mixed that up with the close combat. The tension was epic.
Without playing it this sounds more like the Flood from Halo
I had a feeling this was gonna be a bit rubbish. Back to the Cube then!

I've always said that Capcom will NEVER give you anything as formidable as DMC3 Dante or RE4 Leon, they are just FAAAR to pimp for us peasants.
In every situation they've gone for what's more realistic to the eyes of the people they are trying to target rather than what makes for a more fun game.
I don't give a shit if time stops when you examine something, infact I think it's much better to be able to check something without enemies trying to kill you while you read the text.
I really don't give a shit that time stops when you select items. This realtime system is another example of the above; in RE4 I could select a fire grenade, throw it behind one of those blind nutters, enter the menu as soon as it's left Leon's hand, switch to Magnum or Rifle = instant kill. Now you can't do this, time passes when you bring up the menu - even simply switching guns is a long ting!
I suppose this is all changed due to the online mode the game has now, can't stand online gaming anyway so none of it means anything to me except that it's less fun.

time passes when you bring up the menu
Serious? Who thought that was a good idea? I loved spending time moving things around and having time to think - maybe I'm just getting old!

It's proper rubbish that, I loved it because you could combo stuff - but it must be to keep consistancy with regards to the online game, you can't have time stopping whenever a player opens the menu. They've bolted on so much from western action games it's silly, RE4 is still in there but it's buried under masses of shite.

You have to play with the AI character I hear - MERCS better not be like that too....

There are d-pad shortcuts to your menu items. Not sure if diagonals work but it's pretty handy for making super quick changes between weapons.
To me, this is Resident Evil 4.5 and to be honest, it's good enough for me. The controls are not cluttered up and can be LEARNT in no time. It was fiddly to begin with but it wasn't an issue a few plays in.
Also...as much fun as I had rearanging my kit in the brief case, it's archaic and I'd take instant selection over going through menus. It's like saying people think the original DMC weapon selection was good. Combos and all that noise can be done with the D pad short cuts, no problem.
STRAFE is a God send, and it's not been catered in my opinion to the FPS crowd at all. You can't walk and shoot...that is still somthing thats totally RE. They could have done that, and made it a straight up action shooter. Controls are still limited but with added tweaks here and there. The twin stick set up can be changed to having you control the aim with the left analog. The 360 pad vs GC controls are not an issue. If you can use one, you can use the other.
The only thing that is shit is the real time examining of objects...I didn't come across a situation where it did me harm but I can see how it would be annoying if it does happen.
They've not changed much...Chris and Sheva have more attacks and weapons at their disposal, the enemies seem like they have more potential to cause grief more then the Ganados.
All in all I am looking forward to this lots. Minor upgrade to the awesome RE4 or not. I'd take an update of an awesome game if it was to take me on a (not too similar!)similar or improved ride. Judging by the Co-op, tag team moves and extra attacks and mechanics, It will keep busy.
Although I'll say it once again...I'd take a SD READY version of RE5 for the Wii...with or without Co-op.
THAT BEING SAID...I did play the Dead Space demo last week...and honestly...I didn't know where I stood on my opinion of that game and this one.
I just went out and bought it today. Don't know if theres a thread about that game here...but I've never seen so much WRONGNESS and GRIM in such a short space of time. Thought the door was gonna open and there would be generic aliens. I wasn't prepared for the crazy shit that was walking about in there...
MEAT GRINDER GUN. ;\/\/\\/\/fk;ejdl;sandk;amsdl;
Shameless double NTSC/OS post:
I'm sorry, but after Dead Space this plays like wank.
It either...
A) Needs Wii controls
or
B) Needs to get it's shit sorted.
I changed to the RE4 controls and lost the all new strafe ability, I don't know how essential this is anyway but the controls were hardly saved.
Perhaps I need to remaster RE4 on the Cube, but I doubt doing this is going to sort out the shitty menu system.
FFS, Isaac Clarke is a clumsy engineer not trained for combat... Chris Redfield on the other hand? You'd think he'd be like controlling Dante by now.

Also, as good as the graphics are, the screen-tearing on the 360 version began to make me feel sick and I had to stop playing. Maybe that's the game running from the HD or the lack of power compared to the PS3 version. I don't know.
I'll be picking up the PS3 version, and I'm buying a PS3 for this game to play on the classic Resi pad. If the control is still shit, and the screen still tears, I'm going to be mega pissed off and looking for refunds.
---
Second thoughts: THIS REQUIRES WII CONTROLS 110%!!!! Running with left stick, selecting weapons with right d-pad... my left thumb can't do both at once I'm afraid.
When the co-op works its wicked, but you need to have your shit together even more than in L4D as its easy to run off and forget that if one dies you both die. Maybe the map will become more effective after some more playing throughs. Does the partner target thing show up through walls?
Hated the menu screen, no doubt I'm doing it wrong but is the game really asking you to select ammo and combine it with a gun and then select the gun while you are being slashed, grabbed and chainsawed? There has to be a way of mapping this stuff to the dpad right?
Was fighting the controls a fair bit, but that will no doubt come in time. Left bumper and right trigger just to use the knife seems too awkward at the moment.
The window for X moves seemed incredible tight too and pretty random.
This being 100% co-op may stop me from picking it up on launch, but I'll give the demo some more plays before ruling it out.

Weapon select is mapped to the d-pad, yes. And then you can just aim and press A to reload.
Oh OKAY, in that case I love it!!!!!1

The Idle Thumbs podcast on this is worth a listen, well I LOL'ed.
I played this the other day but lack of inventory pause means I can't improvise (as well) depending on the situation and teh HUNK is nowhere to be seen (I quite liked his necksnapping technique).
I wasn't expecting to be managing a poor AI on top of this. So I did the only sensible thing to do, off her as quickly as possible but no worky.
EDIT: Sorry for these crap impressions, I shall give it another go and write something more insightful and proper later on.
IF the reviews are anything to go by (and they aren't generally) then this is pretty much a co-op only affair. Resi4 on the Wii was the only game in the series I've ever given some serious time to; 5 just feels like a step backwards mechanically, based on what I have played of the demo.
More Wii based Resi please Capcom.
I felt the game was far too apologetic - they either changed for the worse or removed untold little elements which made RE4 such a joy to play. Instead of building on what they did well last time they're trying to emulate what others are doing, but badly.
Mechanics aside there are so many instances in the game where they've obviously shoe-horned Resident Evil into it, the game doesn't have the smooth flow or action movie pacing the last one did. Each time you get to a new set piece it feels disjointed from your last location, puzzles are tacked on for the sake of it, combat is imprecise, melee moves are weedy. They'e even taken out the brilliant treasure system, you no longer have to collect and combine items to make extra money for example.
The characters and narrative are fucking horrible aswell, Leon has more charisma in his little finger than this whole bunch do combined.
There are lots of little bits that are brilliant (the gang chasing you on motorbikes and trucks for example), but again it's disjointed from the rest of the game as it's a point-and-shoot Virtua Cop style mechanic. A full standalone arcade game based on that section would be fucking AMAZING!
Mate, I played this for the first time a few weeks back. I've already written about it at length elsewhere so I'll try and be brief, but to cut to the chase, I hated it.
To me, it felt retrogressive, it is, as you say as though they took all the things that made Resi 4 the game it was (the only decent Resi, IMO) and flushed them down the toilet. The controls were clunky, I often found myself constantly having to stop and realign the camera in order to run in a straight line (not good when you're being pursued) and the menu system was similarly horrid, requiring about 4 or 5 button presses to do something that could easily be accomplished with just one. They also went back to that obtuse item grid system as well which makes no sense to me at all. The game tried to emulate Dead Space's lack of HUD feature by allowing you to map items and weapons to the d-pad, but this fell apart in practice. Oh, and the forced multiplayer and split-screen thing was hideous.
An utter mess of a game. It's just as well for Capcom that most people couldn't bring themselves to look past 'teh HD vizualz!!!11' to see the game for what it really is: dog food.
Ok, I played this to completion on normal difficulty and thought it would have been so much better if they took the ideas from RE4 and simply escalated things (much like The Dark Knight compared to Batman Begins) - it moves at such a slow pace I was ready to let it go after a few levels. The dialogue and aesthetics are dreadful as well, where's the humour and spontaneous super sentai kick/punch/suplexes?
It's this new limpdick aesthetic Capcom are going with now,
They'll NEVER give you a character as overwhelmingly ridiculous as Leon S Kennedy, DMC3 Dante or VJ Joe ever again. Chris Redfield looks like fucking Zangief compared to Leon, but the man is a puss - you'd expect the man to be able to put people into orbit but he punches like a little girl.
Same with Dante in DMC4 compared to DMC3 Dant0r - the same WEEDY feeling you get with Redfield compared to Kennedy, there's no flair, no character, but more importantly there's no VULGAR DISPLAYS OF POWER!
