Interesting one this. In terms of their functionality both MS and Sony are on a collision course. I have a feeling that PS360 and XBox3 will be largely indestinguishable in terms of what they can do.
Under the hood it's a different story as in the interests of making crossplatform ports more difficult they've tried to mix up the architecture just enough to make porting tricky (middleware boys must be rubbing their hands together).
This brings us back to the old addage it's all about the games.

I've been mostly occasionally playing Wipeout HD and laughing at the XMB and the hillarious interface confusion that I cant believe a person without NASA qualifications can get through. Its like interpretating archaic runes.
Check out my LittleBigPlanet levels, if you're into it.
yeah, i couldn't let this go... the game looks bobbins... and I don't get what is meant to be happening other than sacking the level designers as a budget cut exercise.
the muliplanar analogue jump thing isn't setting my world on fire, but I've yet to play it, so humbug.
You have a bunch of virtual materials that you can shape, stick together and make move using simple 'electronics' or gravity. Its like being a kid again with a bunch of building blocks that you can interactive with through your Sackboy - a little character that moves within three levels of depth and has a jump which many seem to find hard to use. Its pretty much whatever you want to make of it out of what you have unlocked from the 'story' campaign; which sees you running though levels collecting balls and learning what is possible if you had the time and the inclination to build them.
Its mad cute!!!!
______________________________________________________________________________ When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
1. Does it come with levels that have been built by professional level designers.
2. Is there a point/objective to the levels. Time Attack, score chasing etc.

So far connecting rockets to things seems to be the most fun, all objects can be raised to the level of PURE WIN through this simple process. For example, a creaking old water wheel - add sponge to the end of its prongs for grip, change the middle bolt so its free to spin, put two rockets on it and wire to a button. That bastard will spin at a million miles an hour, grab hold and let go and experience FLIGHT!!!
______________________________________________________________________________ When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
Yep, it definitely has professionally designed levels (lots of them) that are good enough to instantly dismiss any suggestion of 'sacking the level designer'. The best part of the game, however IS the creation side. I'm not very good at it myself but I'm constantly amazed and enthralled by the imaginative levels that some of the talented people out in Internet land have been able to produce.
When you hear Media Molecule talking about LittleBigPlanet as a 'platform' it's easy to laugh at them, but when you spend a few evenings playing the custom levels you start to see what they mean. There's an endless supply of amazing toys and stages and games-within-games here... So many ideas that I never imagined could be achieved within the confines of the software, and unhindered by the realities that real development teams face (publisher pressure, deadlines, conservatism and formula) that some of these little 'home made' levels are among the best 'games' I've played all year. It's almost as if LBP is the YouTube of the gaming world, allowing ordinary people to pipe their ideas and creations straight to the end-user, totally undiluted and raw.
I LOVE it. And I will probably still be downloading new levels years from now.
Just make sure your LBP levels aren't rips of other games as Sony have started deleting these without warning.
Indeed, I'm building a Viewtiful Joe level at the moment (first enemy type almost complete, then I'm onto a REDHOTKICK and electrified Pink Nurse section) - no way I'm putting that bad boy up...shall just have to Youtube it. . .
______________________________________________________________________________ When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
That's basically it right. I mean there's no other platform exclusives other than Armored Core that are really that interesting?
Just make sure your LBP levels aren't rips of other games as Sony have started deleting these without warning.
Yep. Valkyria Chronicles is a personal fave of mine and the sole reason I bought the Ps3 in the first place.
I'd also add MGS4 to that list, though I realise it's an acquired taste. If you're not invested in the continuity and found the controls of the previous games fiddly then it's best to stay away.
Oh... And don't forget PSN. There are some real corkers on there. Super Stardust HD and The Last Guy are both as essential as any of the disc software.
Sony have gone insane. I happen to have Sony laptop, part of one of the recent updates was Remote Play (which is a stupid idea for the PSP) on the PC...
In short, a lot of the hardware security features are not very watertight (hypervisor and memory execution), which let them get far enough in to spot a massive flaw in the way Sony were signing things with their private keys.
What should have been a random number in the encryption algorithm was a constant, which lets them derive the keys, which gives them low level hardware access. Revoking those keys is not really an option, and can also be worked around, so the whole thing is blown. It seems. PSP style custom firmwares must be on the horizon. Region free blu-ray plzkthx!
The presentation itself is pretty crazy, quite a lot of mildly offputting, but mildly justified nerd RAGE.
That's bonkers! I'd love region free blu-ray goodness, it's such a gamble with films whether they'll work or not. Would love to have the option to disable the HDCP from the menu like you can on the test units too, I've got a Blackmagic Intensity Pro and want to make use of it!
For all those debug options, there were some debug firmwares kicking about a while back (there was a very difficult procedure that partly installed the debug firmware on a stock machine), you'd think it would be possible to pick those apart now.
I don't think I even have a valid credit card associated with any of my accounts, at least there's something to thank the stupid region locking for - I can't buy anything from the Japanese store with my card even if I wanted to.
I'd love to see how they get out of this one. Things are so OTT now with the controls and regulations in accounting, there will be hell to pay if Sony have not been encrypting customer account details.
Just so you know my Japanese PSN account got emailed by Sony TWELVE HOURS before my USA one... and my EU account hasn't got anything yet.

No real system to the combat as such, but it has a strange Just-Cause-like appeal. The free running stuff is quite well done as Cole is very 'sticky' and auto-attaches to almost any ledge or climbable object.
I can't say I care too much for the narrative, but the way in which you can restore power and order to the city little by little is quite charming. There's a rather annoying moral choice system, which means you pretty much have to decide from the beginning to be a goody two-shoes or a nasty little shit. I've gone for the former. Personally I'm not comfortable with games which cut the player off from part of the content based on a choice.
It's all pretty run of the mill, but the execution and presentation are both good and that's enough to bring me back in for now. I do crave the grappling hook and parachute from Just Cause though. This game engine with a grapple hook mechanic and a lick of Marvel paint would make a very credible Spiderman (never sure whether that should be hyphenated) game.
Frustratingly I've been putting some more time into this. 53% complete now...
Movement wise the game is still a little glitchy in places, but not so much that it detracts from the fun of climbing and bombing around the city. Once you've worked out what Cole can and cannot cling to the movement becomes more natural and you can start to chain some moves together. The bad news is that the game drip feeds the 2 powers necessary to move with fluidity, so you don't have total movement freedom off the bat like you do in Just Cause for example.
This drip feed of powers is even more offensive with my latest power-up (the shield) which frankly should have been one of the earlier abilities, since melee combat is essentially redundant without it. Now that I have the shield it is possible to charge enemies and hit them with a melee strike, where previously Cole would have been cut to ribbons by enemy fire.
the narrative has now become a little more interesting too as there's been a fairly significant reveal and a very surprising turn of events, which bodes well for the remaining 47%.
Completely indifferent, apart from hoping that The Blue Rhai dies a death.
Where are the games? Pointless sequels don't count. Little else to say really, other than maybe November worldwide - shyeah, right.
