Hey guys,
Been out of the video game loop for a good while waiting for that special time sink/game to be released. Well, wherever it is I can't find it and I'm afraid GX, Gradius, DMC and the like have set the bar perhaps too high, so I was curious as to what everyone else was spending their time on these days?
I could certainly use some advice.
No More Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy, Ghost Squad, HeXic, Ikaruga, GTAIV at the moment, but I get very little time on any of them tbh - have a weekend free so probably gonna try and finish off NMH, however the thought of not having more of it to play makes me sad...

When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
Only new one that does anything for me is Smash Bros Brawl, I love that game so much >_< - haven't been playing much lately though.
I did put a good chunk of my life into Monster Hunter Freedom 2. That game is addictive for reasons I can't explain; you're based in a village with a few shops, your house (with a kitchen which you manage staff-wise) and a farm which you also manage in order to harvest items for use in tools/potions etc.
You select missions to go out on by speaking to either the village chief or the various characters in the guild hall. Initial missions are simply going out and gathering as much as you can from the land but after passing these you'll be given increasingly difficuly monster slaying missions. The entire game is pretty much about managing inventory and collecting the various bits and pieces needed to make weapons/armour/medicines etc from the land and the dead bodies of the animals you kill. I played the single player for as long as I could before it got tedious, online this would be great but it doesn't seem to work over the net (the rubbish manual explains nothing).
I've put that down now and am mostly playing Kikaioh on the Dreamcast (AWSUM!!) and Darius Gaiden on the Saturn. I did get hold of G-Darius too but it doesn't work properly on the PS3; the game runs fine but the controls fuck up completely (keeps sending random inputs via the pad).

wii fit every day. mario kart most nights and a bit of ghost squad for shootan.
Just completed Lost Winds according to the game is took me 2hours 30mins, according to the Wii Message Board it was over 5 hours... who to believe?
Been trapsing through GTAIV, its alright, I see it as the idealised version of the GTA3 concept... what's wierd is that the best most interesting missions are coming up halfway through the game, like chasing bikers through subways and robbing banks and so forth. It is very much structured like a traditional computer game with the learning curve and introduction to mechanics slowly folded into your psyche, probably too slowly, all a bit Lemmings really.
Been trying to crack on those Mario Kart Wii "Tournaments", as I was saying to Paper, they are too messy to really commit to. Not only do you have to consider the track, the lines, routes, power ups (depending on the tournament) you also have to consider the character, bike or kart aswell.... far, far, far too many variables to make it a viable time trialer in my mind. They should lock down the character and the vehicle, lose the power ups, and make it Sega Rally, oh right...
Hmm, there are a lot of good games about that have been taking up little bits of my time recently:
- Taiko no Tatsujin on just about any platform
- Mario Kart Wii
- Minna no/Everybody's Golf 5
- bits and pieces of WiiWare
- Wii Fit
- Ghost Squad
- Rez HD
- Rock Band
I haven't sunk a huge amount of time into any of these though.
There hasn't been many really great games that grabbed me this year in fact, just lots of worthwhile decent ones.
I have Smash Bros., Skate and Zelda DS lined up though, and am looking forward to Band Brothers DX more than anything else.
I've been tempted by Skate a few times, but have yet to buy it...

When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
You ever properly completed the demo?
For me, that was pretty good... the actual game turns a bit too sandbox.
I'd be happy with that engine in a THPS2 world... making an entire city because you can... doesn't seem worth while.
Having a Skate Park 1, then Skate Park 2 and so on, suits an actual game in my mind more than this trend of loose open design flannel... which maybe my grumpy old man syndrome, and induvidually the areas might be excellent design, if only they were sealed off.
When are you lot gonna take your kicking on Smash Bros anyway?
You haven't even added my Wii number Jibber!
u maek saur cry!
PS - Spags, there's a Wiikey update on the official site for Smash Bros now, boots the original fine...my stupid machine still doesn't though ¬_¬

Thanks for the suggestions. I had a look at the We Love Golf thread and it was enough to sell me on it, so I just ordered a bunch of wii hardware.
It's a start.
I'm playing The World Ends With You on the DS at the moment. It's a great game that really draws you into it the more you play it.
I'm grinding my way through Super Mario Galaxy. 119 stars 1 to go
Toy Time Purple Comet in case anyone is interested. What a bastard level.
I got my 120 on Friday. Last one was Daredevil Comet on the crow's nest battle against Kamella.
Toy Time Purple is a real bitch but totally doable as you only have to collect 100 of the 150 coins. Try to leave a few squares untouched towards the start as you'll need to backtrack toward the star.
I'm currently playing TV Show King - a surprisingly fun quiz game on WiiWare.
Yeah dropped Toy Time Purple Comet on Sunday. Figured the star would appear back at the start as it's the only bit of fixed land on the map. In the end I worked out a route where I methodically went around the edge and worked my way back to the start.
I really cba to play through the whole game again with Luigi. I might dip back in now and then. He is a little quicker than Mario and has lower friction footwear, but the difference is probably not enough to make the experience significantly different. So far I'm at 1 star with Luigi...
I'm playing The World Ends With You on the DS at the moment. It's a great game that really draws you into it the more you play it.
Dude I need to know more about this game. It looks really good, big write up on it in this months NEO magazine. Paper would enjoy this one too as it has a dress-up element to if if I'm not mistaken?
pink hair?
LOL
One mans quest to put Ulala in every freakin videogame ever.
I know the one true path.
The path is pink.
How very New Testament of you.
I watched Brokeback Mountain last night on C4. I think I'd have enjoyed it more if I could actually understand what the hell they were saying 90% of the time.
I caught 2 mins of awkward grunting. Was the whole film in that vein?
Gaming time is limited at the mo, I'm playing Mario Kart Wii almost exclusively - the online component is so addictive that I haven't even finished my 150CC run yet.
I've dabbled in The World Ends With You, but I'm not feeling it yet - it's most frenetic & it hasn't clicked in my brain yet; I'm expecting it to any minute now though
Regarding Brokeback Mountain - incredible film, & a damn touching love story to boot. The final scenes are as intensely moving as anything else I've seen.
There was some intense moving in those 2 mins as well.
I always try to move intensely. Makes people think I'm more dramatic.
Bizarrely I thought it was pretty darn good and the missus hated it. It's a forbidden love story at heart and the gayness isn't really pivotal to that. It does make it more interesting though as the love is forbidden by society as a whole.
The last half hour I was choking back the tears and the last scene gives it that ray of hope ending that puts it on the right side of poignant and shmultz.
Ulala was not in it sadly. Neither was Ken. A Ken Ryu remake would be so good. Someone must have done one on Youtube.
I'm playing The World Ends With You on the DS at the moment. It's a great game that really draws you into it the more you play it.

Basically, it's the game Square/Enix should've made a long time ago - a classic RPG with a completely fresh twist. That they've actually made the "random encounters" both fun AND optional is also a stroke of genius.
The game doesn't really start to take off until a few hours into it, but once it does, you'll be hooked. The combat also feels very pat head/rub tummy at first, but once you're immersed, it becomes second nature.
The dressing up element is a glorified version of armour in traditional RPGs and works by requiring you to change your clothes/brands depending on the district you're in to gain the statistical advantage (kind of like how you wear certain kinds of armour for elemental foes in traditional RPGs). The presentation is also top notch, with great visuals and some cool J-Pop sounds.
Overall, it's a funny, stylish and very clever game, but its cleverness only becomes apparent the more time you spend with it.
In fact, I'm going to log off here and go and play it some more!
