So is this a new game by Treasure? Looks interesting, this "MULTIPLER" thing in particular.
LOL
No but it's probably a bloody good time to dl the original S+P and remind ourselves how awesome it is
Makes some sense now that this was made available to the West on the Virtual Console, they were just softening us up for the sequel.

It is indeed a new Treasure game, though I'm more excited by Sandlot's new stuff...
A lot more screenshots on the Wii line-up here: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20081002/wiiss.htm
What the hell are those screens from Cacky? I have to say that the screens alone fill me with a complete sense of MEH.
Has anyone released/announced a Claymore tie in game yet? If not, why not?

The Sandlot game is called "Dynamic Kill"(the kanji is for kill) and I thought it looked pretty cool as their sense of scale has always been pretty epic and having a fantasy hack and slash Chikyuu Boeigun styled game could be great.
No Claymore game tie-ins as yet but that may be down to the fact it's not as successful as the other manga/anime series out at the moment. We'll prolly get something someday though.
Sandlot in non giant robot/insect shocker?!
Intriguing.
That Sandlot title looks like a PC game!
Cool interview about Punch Out, one of those awesome Iwata asks, history of gaming with a load of geography teachers.

Videogames is st00pidz
Want........SO VERY WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!
It looks SO awsum! T_T
Bugger this is looking awsum. How annoying.
And indeed it is. Was fortunate enough to play Sin and Punishment 2 today courtesy of charlesr. 15 minutes was enough to confirm that the game should be a part of everyones Wii collection. It's like a totally awesome update of Space harrier with movement and aiming seperated out. Utterly brilliant!
Stop it man, please! I'm going to have to deal crack or something fund getting hold of this T_T
Same. Need more money for gaming goodness. I need no good games released for the next 6 months just so I can play the Christmas lot.
Can we not just agree s&p2 is average and leave it at that?
NNNNGGGG did I mention that it's 2 player?
Movement is controlled on the nunchuck, Z and C perform an evade and activate your jetpack. The game is far more aerial than the first one. Evade is effectively invincible and vital for navigating through enemy attacks. All aiming and weapons are handled on the Wii remote. The B button doubles up as sword (tap) and gun (hold) which is really neat. A key part of the gameplay is to use the sword to send back enemy projectiles, this requires timing and you also have to aim (using the pointer) to send the projectile back in the desired direction. The A button switches between fire types (tap) switching between single target lockon and free firing (I couldn't see much point in single target lockon, but it might come into its own with enemy swarms). Holding the A button charges up a powerful shot for taking out the bigger baddies.
Graphics feel considerably more muted than the original game. The graphical style reminds me a little of Ikaruga.
So yeah it's totally average >_<
Best game evah
Hello there
. How are you?
My fear though is that S&P2 will be one of those game that demands higher and higher prices. A western release looks unlikely, but I'm not sure I can drop 40 notes on a game right now.
How does the game develop later on Treb? I only played the first couple of bits. Got passed the mechanical spider bot boss and then went outside for a bit of a fly around before turning it off. Loved every split second of it.
It's down for Q1/Q2 isn't it? I thought as it was Nintendo published we were likely to see it in the West.
Wouldn't be a problem for me, but my JPN Wii just died
Actually the new Gecko OS homebrew app plays this fine on my US Wii. I haven't tried any PAL games yet, but I think they've basically nailed it now. I believe it can even get around on-disk firmware updates, not sure how though.
I wouldn't want to risk brickage/bannage. Did you ever reset the shop account on yours?

Hola. I'm fair-to-middling, cheers. Surviving ^_^
I'm not very far in myself - I did the ridiculously generous and praise-worthy thing of loaning my Wii to a friend for a month (to be fair, he buys every new release on day one and lends me them for weeks at a time, so he was due). I only got it back t'other day, and haven't had the pleasure of Wii-acquaintance yet.
Still, what I've played of it is excellent, and a lot more like Space Harrier than we have any right to hope for. The wiimote suits the game down to the ground, making the controls effortlessly superior to the original's kind-clunkiness(in my humble opinion, m'lud). The graphics are lovely (if, like you say, a bit muted. Not detrimentally so, though) and designs are great.
I'm sort of dreading the difficulty spike though. By all opinions, the game gets painfully hard during the later levels, even set to easy (I'm playing on Normal). So I'm a bit tummy-wobbly-scared, to be honest.
@Treble. Interesting that we both picked up on the Space Harrier feel
. I've experienced that difficulty step in a few Treasure games before iirc. They sort of lul you in with a few easy levels then hit you with some crazy boss or uber hard stage that just pwns. Fair play though I do want to see the game push the limits. Nothing worse than passengering your way through a game imo.
@Paper. I don't think the region free thingy mucks about with the IOS etc. It's just a boot loader that skips the region detection. I'd need to read up on it some more. Charlesr did make a good point though, with the homebrew channel it may be possible to download and install norty .wad files, which means I could be very illegal and download pirate version of the stuff that I've already purchased and go from there.
The homebrew stuff really has stepped up a notch since the last time I looked into it. There's even an app store style browser that lets you dl and update apps directly on the Wii wtihout having to muck about with a PC = nice!
Completed. Had to bang this down to Easy for a first play-through (oh, the huge manatees) as it was totally kicking my nethers. On Easy, it's set to a difficulty level I'd describe as 'passably reasonable'. In other words, it's as hard as Gradius V on Easy, which means 'Still bloody tough'.
Excellent game, comprised of proper old-style Space Harrier antics for the most part (with 'on foot' sections being sparse) but expertly expanded to include charged shots, lock-ons, melees and counters. You really need to get the timing of the missile deflections down perfectly, to take down the latter bosses, which is tough as you're avoiding standard enemy fire (chip damage; combo breaking), mine placements (mines wait for a while - wherein they can be batted back to the boss for damage - or if left long enough, detonate then render a section of the screen 'polluted') missiles and boss bloke cannon fire.
There's the odd 2D side-scrolling section too, concluding with some side-on boss encounters that make you miss the days when proper time and effort was invested in horizontal shooters and their boss encounters. I think the last one of any calibre was Gradius V as I mentioned, also developed by Treasure.
The variety of enemies, bosses and attack patterns and formations is impressive and the visuals become better, more detailed and unique the further into the game you progress (the last few, including the last few stages that echo Battle of the Planets/Gatchaman are really excellent) feels like you're being rewarded for your effort. The final few stages are a twist on the boss rush concept and nicely played-out, with some surprises in store: not many modern games have such varied opponents, and certainly not in a pseudo 3D space where sometimes they act like 2D opponents from a vert shooter, and then spin off and attack in 3D configurations.
It's one of my games of the year, certainly, and I'm going to attempt a Normal playthrough soon. Gulp.
Dammit, I'm going to have to order this. Then buy nothing else for a year.
I'm having something of a Wii renaissance at the moment, triggered by my Japanese machine dying. I'd been neglecting it in favour of Rock Band, but I really need to get back in there. So many good games at the moment, Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros, Exictebots, S&P2, Punch Out, Metroid Prime Trilogy. I need to revisit Mario Galaxy and MadWorld too at the very least, not to mention a whole bunch of decent looking WiiWare stuff worth playing. Rock 'n' Climber and ExciteBike! Really enjoying those too.
Been playing Pikmin 2 after picking it up for peanuts, and really enjoying it in English this time round; such a well crafted game, and the Wii controls make everything a bit easier.
Keen to get further with Disaster: Day of Crisis, there is a peculiar light gun game in there somewhere, but its all obfuscated by fist bumping and 'holy shit!'.
Bubble Bobble Neo is pretty nifty as well. Never enough time
So S&P 2 is out in euroland today, anyone playing? I'll get my copy tommorrow but want have a wii until sometime next week. Looking around the net, there doesn't seem be that much buzz about this. As much as I hope, this isn't going to do that well at retail, is it?
Temptation. What control method is best suited for this, mote or the new PRO controller perhaps?
Reading the impressions in this thread for those who have played the Japanese version, as you would expect the remote shines for games like S&P2.
Bit of a lump of decent game atm... just trying to get a game going on DIY Wario and playing Super Street Fighter IV... and am creating a backlog really.
Really fancy SnP2 though, darn.
From the 2 levels I've played it's an essential purchase. I really can't recommend it more.
I have to say I was shocked to see this in Gamestation at the weekend. It's going to sell absolutely nothing in Europe. I'm just grateful that some publishers are keen to take a risk and keep people like me entertained.
