My Enemy Territory Quake Wars Shame

Deep breath,

Soooooo I'm a Linux user at home and I'm a gamer. Linux is undoubtedly shit for games unless you want to play emulators or retro DOS and Windows titles (which I do).

There are however a smattering of Linux native ports available and a while back I downloaded the demo client of Enemey Territory Quake Wars (ETQW), just out of curiosity you understand.

Thing is. I'm enjoying it rather more than I thought I would. Now I never picked up Call of Duty 4, so I don't have that benchmark to compare against, but ETQW seems to get a lot of things bang on the money.

There's a good mix of classes, objectives and equipment. There's a simple levelling system, which gives you enhancements (e.g. faster lock-on time for the rocket launcher). The demo level itself is pretty big and has a really interesting mix of indoor and outdoor environments, infact as level design goes it's excellent. The demo level is designed with a number of 'choke points' and objectives, which one side has to complete and the other side has to thwart.

I feel dirty.

It happens to the best of us sometimes. I actually played through and enjoyed Prey, earlier this year.

Noooo there's a Linux port of that in the works. Demo is also available.

What's worse is I'm playing online and enjoying it o_O

Welcome to the party... me and my bro were playing this a few years back, its got that king of the hill, multiple defense/attack points class system thing going for it, which is really compelling.

If it was a few years back then it was probably the prequel 'Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory'. Not sure whether this is bigger and better, but it seems to hang together really well, sort of like Team Fortress Classic, without the fortress.

No sadly, although fps style games do seem to work well with the remote nunchuck combo Smile
