So I am stuck behind a massive firewall and can only surf on my blackberry, but I managed to pickup that they are doing a Mega Man 9 as a direct continuation of the NES games, same gfx, controls, everything...

Is this fo realz?

If so, ultra kudos.

I'm not a Mega Man man, bit this is kinda exactly what DLC should be all about!

gRIM

Loved X3 on the Saturn (I know most people hate that version as some sort of inferior SNES port. Also have 4 on the NES, but only played it once. Megaman is a great run and gun platformer. More of the same YES PLEASE.

Incidentally isn't it about time Capcom did something with Stryder? That game is gagging for a reboot.

Oh boy that looks bloody great. The great thing is that by reusing all of the old shizzlay, they can basically focus 100% on the level design. I have high hopes for this.

Man! They could do some wild wild stuff to really hurt your perception of the universe.

Wonder if they are actually making a NES game, using the in built wii VC thing... Be brilliant if it had the screen ripping stuff!

Shocked

IF they are and it sells can you imagine the implications of that? It would be a comercial ROM hack effectively with proper games designers at the helm. NOTHING would be safe from the sick mind of these bastards.

I love it Smiling

Tried this, and didn't like it at all.

I'm a fan of your mid 80's 2D Capcom run and gunners, but never really got on with the NES Mega Man games, just too difficult and frustrating. Ghouls 'n' Ghosts is my limit on this kind of punishment. There is a lot to be said for constraining the player and forcing them to learn and adapt, but Mega Man has always seemed too restrictive and too difficult to allow for very much flair and experimentation.

Anwyays, MM9 looks, sounds and plays identically to those early Mega Man games. It is cool that they've basically created a new NES game, but they've also replicated the difficulty (if not made it even harder) and the frustrating limitations (no duck, no aim, flickscreen enemy respawn) of those early games. A purist's wet dream.

I thought they might have tamed the difficulty a little, moved from flickscreen to scrolling, expanded Mega Man's controls, but no, it is a completely faithful sequel in all of those respects. It feels like a rom hack of the original, more than anything else.

The only concession to modernity is achievements (even on the wii) and dlc, neither of which really appeals to me.

Unlike Gradius Rebirth, I haven't seen any new ideas in there at all (only tried about 4 areas though), everything is rehashed from previous entries in the series.

Really liked this but it's Megaman and meant to be tough. I never had an issue with the Makaimura series either, so I'm not sure what your beef is exactly.

"Purist's wet dream" is also a tad hypocritical perhaps?

I have to confess I had a quick bash of 1 to 4 on a NES emulator. Seem pretty reasonable to me. The fact you can't crouch has never bothered me. I much prefer the sliding mechanic of the later games in the series though.

The good thing is although it's tough the structure allows you to wander off and try a different level if you get frustrated. If you had to tackle them in a fixed order that would indeed suck big time.

Must dl this, but I need to set my Wii up again, defo not going to risk this on the 360 dpad.
