What?

Surely there's no contest in the track events. Field events I reackon Mario might have the edge.

Note to Sega/Nintendo. Please make a game of this. Thank you.

It looks like a scam doesn't it:

Quote:

In development for Wii and DS, you take control of characters from both the Mario and Sonic universes including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi (yes!) and more.

Officially licensed by the International Olympic Committee, you will compete in environments based on the Beijing 2008 Olympics grounds.

The game is said to make innovative use of the Wii and DS control systems when controlling Mario, Sonic and pals in 100 meter sprints or table tennis rallies.

Advertisement:

"For the first time, two of the world's greatest games' characters come together to compete in the world's greatest sporting event and we couldn't be more excited", commented Sega's president and chief operating officer, Hisao Oguchi.

Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, says: "Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals since the early days of video games.

"In fact, for a long time they have been discussing the possibility of one day competing against each other. Now that they have been given the perfect opportunity to meet at the Olympic Games, we may finally learn who is actually faster, Mario or Sonic?"

An AV / Nintendo track and field game would be epic.

There's no way Nintendo and Sega would farm the kids to somewhere guff.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOGOMGOMGOMO!!!!!11111111111111111111111111111111

SEGATON++++

This is what every Sega fanboy has been dreaming of ever since Sega went platform agnostic. This will be way better than any of that officially licensed bollocks we normally get every four years.

Track and Field + Mario + Sonic X_X dies happy.

Yeah... I know... its such a freaking niche product too... but all they have to do is... I mean... Sega have the pedigree on this genre... and Nintendo have the umm gameplay acumen to make this thing seriously decent.

Mario and Sonic Decathlete with Wii and DS controls... it'll take button hammering to the next level!

I get confused with Decathlete/Athlete Kings. I have a feeling that Data East actually dev'd that game. Regardless. Sports Jam and all of Segas's arcade output proves that they can make this type of game. I think FZero GX proves that Sega and Ninty can produce the goods when they team up.

There's a rumour going round that TOSE are actually developing this.

Not sure about that but it's bound to be awesome. I can imagine how the discus works already.

Lets see what strengths each character should have in different Olympic games...

Mario

Hammer Throw! (SM64 vs Bowser..A Hammer throw will be nothing to him!)
Pole Volting (plenty of practice from jumping to the end goals in SMW and SMB1)
Triple Jump (SM64, In the bag!)
Long Jump ( Z TRIGGER...slide...JUMP!)

Sonic

Running events
Bowling? :/

Anyway...This should be a great little laugh. I would have preffered to hear that Sonic and Marios first meeting up would be in Smash Bros Brawl, but this more or less confirms that it will also be another possibility. Laughing out loud

So if you can stomach navigating this site,

http://www.g4tv.com/pile_player.aspx

Find Mario and Sonic on the right hand side, and you'll be rewarded with some ACTUAL GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE...

Looks totally fine to me! An kinda exhausting.

It's really rather good Smile

A good mixture of events. Decent controls and a whole bunch of modes. This is a really nice party game that pretty much anyone can get into. Personal highlight so far has to be the Skeet shooting, which can get ferociously competitive.

Supports the use of Miis too, so you can put yourself in the action.

Now all I need to do is sit down and do Mii versions of the Decathlete characters and enjoyment will be complete. Smile

There's a whole bunch of stuff to unlock too. I'm itching to see what additional events are in there.

I've been holding off on Olympic for Olympic Winter and its just nuts, like Star Wars meets Star Trek in American Football.

I would be weird enough having Mario or Sonic doing figure skating... but both of them?

It is Captain super slick, and all the events so far have shown some thought and depth. I didn't play the first one that much, the first "Dream" even it gives you is downhill skiing with Sonic loops and jumps in it, which is awesome!

I can't believe how slick it is.

So Olympic Winter Games or Limpet Winter Games as the announcer at the start sounds like has some mad "Dream" events.

Ski Jumping through Super Mario Galaxy anyone?

and

Team figure skating interpretative dance to a game of Super Mario Bros? Like Lord of the Rings on ice? I couldn't concentrate it was so hilarious.

There is some underlying game too, a bit like Sega winter games of the past vs the summer ones. Summer games are usually tap tap tap fests and winter more cerebral technical er fests. The same goes for this. Other than the speed skating there are no events that have prolonged waggleathons.

My usual fave is the same again here, Curling, thats right Curling. Pure skill and tactics. The Ice Hockey is really tough but engaging and I can't quite work out the Snowboard half pipe, there is a nod to SSX Blur super moves, but not quite so hard to pull off.

LUIGI ON A HORSE, repeat LUIGI ON A HORSE!

We've got Mario, Sonic and London in the title of a computer game... will wonders never cease?
