Kind of just trips off the tongue doesn't it...?

This is out next week people - do you not understand how unbelievably excellent this news is? It seems to be more of the same (with added rival cheering squad) which is no bad thing; the original remains my favourite DS game & I can't wait to get stuck into this.

I honestly think it helps that I have very little clue as to what's going on - it just seems to add to the daftness of thw whole thing.

I score the first game 5 stupid grins out of 5 - here's hoping that part 2 can top that.

After EBA I was sort of ambivalent about this, and then I saw some of the songs announced, and I'm excited all over again.

EBA never quite got me the same way Ouendan did, knowing the songs broke the stories somehow.

Cannot wait Smile

I've got it. Not as good as the last two games, but the music's good.

What's broken then? Or are you saving it for a review?

Subtle!

Sounds like there may be a lack of heart string tugging moments.

Probably be a week before I get mine now, but I'm looking forward to the song list.

EBA was good but didn't quite do it for me - too similar to Ouendan, and either the song list wasn't right or the stories weren't as good as Ouendan.

personally, I think it was good for one iteration... the eba localisation was a nice idea...

they should think about doing something new...

i.e. I am in the camp that is never happy with an update or a new idea.

I've played about 10 songs so far and feel a little underwhelmed. Each level suffers either because the song is dull or the story incomprehensible...or both.

There is the odd inspired moment - like the song where you have to stop the little boy from wetting the bed - but, so far, it's not gripping me in the way the first two did.

Wait until you get to the last song on Hard mode, and it will have hooked you all over again, I guarantee Smile

Yep, this is really good. All the technical improvements from EBA with a new set of stories, is basically the deal.

I was a little underwhelmed to begin with too, but the songs and the stories really grow on you as the difficulty ramps up through Hard mode - they've tweaked this up to give masters of the first game more of a challenge, I'm finding the last song more difficult that Ouendan or EBA.

The last song on Hard pulls the same trick as EBA, in that it gives you very fast sections with similar timing, then a last section with tricked timings that throw you off after the concentration needed for the first part. BASTARD thing, I've got so close, just fluffing the last few seconds on it now...

I saw Nyarth post on UK:* saying he'd played it over the weekend and it had grown on him, the only problem being that the ghost story doesn't hit you as well as the first game (which I completely agree with). I'd add to that that there really isn't any development over EBA, and it is essentially the same game. But... for such a sodding great game in the first place, that is a tiny criticism - definitely worth a purchase! Laughing out loud

I'm feeling I need some of this love. Think I'll pick up a copy of EBA if I can find one in the shops. Seems like a good place to break my DS music game virginity

I couldn't master the spinning on the original, that's why I am bitter about the sequels... was one of the games to make me throw my DS phat across the room though... damn'd ready steady go...

I'll give you ready steady go.

On a side quest, anyone know where I can buy a usb cable to charge a DS lite in London... if they exist... mine ran out of juice whilst I was Picrossing, and I bet it didn't save where I was at.

Game Focus have the USB charging cables.

They've changed the spinning controls in EBA and Ouendan 2, some people find it easier, I find it harder.

Cracked Hard mode, woo! New Asahi team cheerleaders - the girl in charge looks like Athena with pink hair.

Some of the Very Hard mode songs are lethal, lots of small rolling ball items with basically no warning. Ouendan 2 is definitely tougher than the other two once you get going, although it might be a little easier to begin with.

(arnie)It doesn't work dat way(/arnie)

Since losing a half finished Picross puzzle due to Battery depletion my DS has been on charge every other day just to make sure the puzzle is still there ready to go when I flip open the lid Smile

2nd impressions...

...I'm bloody loving this now. As predicted I'm on to the hard songs and am starting to feel the challenge. it's typical of most music games really, the harder difficulties match the rhythm of the songs more closely and are therefore more enjoyable and give you a deeper appreciation of the tunes.

I take it all back.

ALSO: Monkey Magic is a thing of total brilliance.

Rockin' Smile

I'm halfway through the Cheerleaders, but fear the last few songs will take some serious work...

I meant to say... start with Ouendan, it has the best track list and the easiest learning curve }:)

Oh, and Band Brothers is standard issue Tongue

I'm stuck on the final song in Hard diffiuclty now. This level uses every dirty trick imaginable - double tap to slide, multiple spinny wheels per section, fast triple hits, double and triple hits within a long string - it's becoming quite frustrating but I still love it.

How you getting on? Smile

DAMN the last song on Insane difficulty. Ouendan 2 is dissing me bad here.

Ouendan 1 and EBA were cleared in a couple of days, Cheerleader mode has taken me hostage for a week now with 2.

... and then there is hidden mode that doesn't show the timing circles, which I haven't unlocked yet.

iNiS have been complete evil bastards with this one. I'll have to write a review for this I reckon, once I reach the elation of clearing insane mode.

MAN.

Soooooo,

I caved in a picked up a copy of EBA at the airport (sorry Jibbler Pokemon Diamond got left on the shelf). Anyway tis really rather good yah!

Also you can call me a big fat poof, but it's been a long while (possibly never) since a videogame has made me cry with sadness. Don't know if I was feeling particularly vulnerable (been having some personal tings that will wait for another day and another thread to discuss), but the Christmas level had me welling up. The story and that damned tune with the chime like beats just had me sobbing into my DS. I think If I'd failed any of the segments I'd have been in tatters.

You should really get Ouendan 1...

The ghost story hasn't been bettered, and as Nyarth pointed out, the tear-jerker track is always the counter point to Ouendan.

One step at a time. I need to finish this one first. When I demo'd your copy the other week I didn't realise the distance between hits was indicative of the timing. Now everything is making much more sense. Skills are still building. Might be interesting to approach them in the wrong order to see if my feelings are different to your's and Nyarth's. Oddly I'm not sure familiarity with a song is actually a good thing. It's not helpful to have Avril Lavigne jumping up and down in my head whilst trying to hit circles on a screen with millisecond precision.

Agree with song-familiarity - it helps being less familiar with the songs.

Having said that, Ouendan's classic j-pop is still better than EBA's song list.
