All the hype about photorealism is put to rest about 1 millisecond into the demo. Sure the game is nice looking, not pretty, but certainly nothing like photorealistic.
This really is the most non-game thing I've played in a long time. The demo showcases the types of 'gameplay' that presumably the full game has. If you like QTE you will be at home here. If you like pressing and holding multiple buttons on the PS3 controller in a mind twisting array of combinations you will love this game; to be fair the pressing and holding mechanic, whilst commands appear and dissapear in chains on the screen overlay, works exceptionally well. Quite surprising how much I had to think about what my fingers were doing to match the onscreen prompts.
The game is going to live or die by the story. The demo seems to hint that this might be quite well done actually, but it's impossible to draw any firm conclusions.
I've been through the demo a couple of times and there does appear to be a significant ammount of branching in terms of the dialogue and the QTE sequences. It's very possible to have 2 very different fights depending on how the action branches based on your inputs. Trying to draw out the multiple branches and convergences on a piece of paper I'm sure you would end up with a complex mess of lines.
Anyone else 'played' this?

Not yet, though I doubt I will tbh. Is it all QTE or are there any 'free' moments in the game? Sounds like one of them RAD book adventures where you turn to certain pages depending on your decisions - only using buttons instead and not using your imagination.
I played through the demo of this last night.
It does the QTE thing to death doesn't it? Some nice ideas for sure (I liked all the different stances during the questioning at the start), but it is really over the top, I think it would be frustrating if it was at that level throughout the entire game.
The noire style didn't quite run for me, especially when the FBI guy turned up wearing FutureGlasses, or whatever they were meant to be. I can't help but feel the story just won't live up to the ambition.
A few odd visuals dropped me out of the ambience a few times too; headlights that are pure white light in a slow close up pan across the front of a car, puddles that didn't react to a car tyre going over them. Ridiculous when you notice them, given the attention to detail elsewhere. There are some nice water effects all over the place, but it wasn't very consistent and felt a bit unfinished.
Movement controls were terrible too. Hmm. I do like the style though, when it works.
The movement is terrible granted, I suspect the decision to have movement as left stick input (modified with R2 iirc) is to reserve the left analogue stick for more complex dual stick command inputs. This is just a guess though, but yeah the movement controls do suck.
I actually really enjoyed the 'future glasses' bit. That felt more like a game as you're allowed to explore the area freely. The scanning mechanic reminded me a bit of Arkham Asylum (sp?). The investigation side of the game certainly has potential, but what was on offer in the demo was pretty linear in the end.
One nice touch is the control you have over the animation speeds. The way this is implemented gives you the illusion of more control than you actually have, which is pretty clever.
hahahahahahahah hahah ahhahahahha aahhaahhaa
this is the worst thing I have ever played, ever.
I was in hysterics.
Really, deeply awful.
Hold X, Square, Left, Up to get around a skip in an alley... thats as far as I got.
What kind of world is that?
Made me laugh all evening, and I am still chuckling now.
Did people really get beyond that?
You need medals.
I love how the mainstream press have been hailing this as "the future of gaming"...
It's very well produced, I'll give it that. But calling it a "game" is stretching things a bit.
this is the worst thing I have ever played, ever.
*GASP*!
You risked turning the PS3 on in the middle of global meltdown??
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/37784/PS3-bug-hits-the-headlines
no no, I turned it on at the weekend, or maybe friday.
It gets a hoover every so often, and I let it update itself every so often, it seems most comfortable with that.
I wipe it down and sometimes give it a blast of airduster, it's happy just sitting there...
I completely missed out on the "global meltdown", first I heard of it was in the paper today. Bovvered...
Hold X, Square, Left, Up to get around a skip in an alley... thats as far as I got.
Yea that's rubbish isn't it. There are some better uses of the system later on, like when you're scrabbling up a muddy slope in the investigation segment.
It's worth plugging through the demo Jib. It's a total non-game game and doesn't seem to bring much new to the party other than some nice presentation and a multipath branching narrative.
I know someone who has the full game, so might be able to squeeze a loan of it at some point.
