Finally, after a long wait Gundam Extreme Versus will get a PS3 port. The arcade version is using the System 357 board, basically a PS3 in a box, so it's going to be an accurate rendition that's for sure. It will be released at the beginning of December.

This year is also the ten year anniversary for the Gundam Versus series too, so Capcom are planning some cool stuff.

Smile Great news.

Seriously I've been doing a lot of thinking about Gundam recently. I still want to get hold of the films. What is the current best way to watch these (legally natch). Is there a blu-ray box set I can import?

The original film trilogy is now (legally) subbed on YouTube:

I notice in the comments that there's a US release of the TV series with subs and an English dub, that might be a better bet as I can watch it with Max.

Good point, but the TV continuity isn't canon for the Universal Century timeline (only the movies).

Most of the saga is dubbed in English and on DVD though. Only the newer series are on BluRay in the US/UK (such as Gundam 00 and Gundam Unicorn).

There isn't really a catch all box-set for everything though.

The original movie trilogy is pretty much the best place to start really.

Pre-ordered this finally. It also seems to come with a pre-order bonus too, in the form of the Hi-Nu Gundam. Can't wait!

This finally arrived and it's absolutely brilliant. They've totally reworked the game's systems too, so it's a lot deeper now. Especially as there are hefty animation penalties for boost usage, so it feels a lot like the first Virtual On. I've played a chunk of it online too and it's really solid, plus the replay system is fucking awesome. I've still got to re-learn the whole approach to close combat though, as the rainbow cancels change everything massively.

Oooooo that looks bloody good. I'm guessing this will also work lovely with my arcade stick Smile
Incidentally doing some digging about the arcade version. What's the function of the odd looking 5th cabinet that stands in isolation to the linked player cabs?

That's a replay cab, so you can see what each player is doing during a match. Most games in (Japanese) arcades have something similar.

The PS3 game works brilliantly with an arcade stick, I've been using my Real Arcade Pro. 3 almost exclusively and it's sooooo good.

I finally got around to reviewing the game too. It's a lot more technical than I was expecting but in a very very good way obviously. More importantly, it runs at a solid 60 fps throughout!
