This guy seemed to like it, and then felt the need to justify his take on the game by writing an article that is eerily in alignment with how I guess a lot of us feel.
I've not read his review, but fully intend to. There's been so much negative pre-release press surrounding this game though that I'm sure a lot of the 'reviews' have been based on preconceptions and journo pack mentality.
The question remains; is it any bloody good?
I can't imagine it's going to stack up against something like Devil May Cry 3, but then not much does really. I'm genuinely intrigued by this game now.

I liked this part of his review:
"Beast Rider is a pure action game, free of prompts, navigation, wordy cinematics, quick time events, inventory screens or item management, and based on swordplay, beast riding and magic—period."
He goes on to explain basic combat mechanics and how the game works, where a corresponding IGN review would almost certainly delve into something entirely unrelated like talking about the game's soundtrack for a page or two.
Sounds like fun at least, is there a demo?
I've no idea. I hope so. I'd love to try it out. It sounds almost like
an arcade game from that description.
Wow. Based on his review it sounds phenominal. Probably not much depth to the combat, but it sounds like the enemy design and placement makes up for any movement limitations there might be.
Demo? Anyone?
I read the IGN "review" of this (don't hit me).
It's the same clueless fucking dickhead who wrote the God Hand review so I knew I was in for a good laugh, the review was typically dire. He did mention that the game has a parry system though, but then went on to rant about how this system is broken because you have to press the button JUST before an attack hits or the attack will damage you.
I don't understand how these people wind up reviewing games, but what he describes is EXACTLY what a parry is in a game. The parry window in any decent system is around 4 to 6 frames, as this game has such a system I'm interested in trying it.
I'll see if I can skank a freebie...

God forbid you actually have to do something yourself to avoid taking damage, like playing the game!
I've also read that your performance is ranked by the end of every level like DMC so there's incentive to play well.
Sign me up for the beast rider's club, I really want to give this a try now.
My meth for this is setting games to Easy.

When's 'Wii Carlton' coming out?
I've played a few levels of this and just find it far too boring to persevere with to be honest.
It's a simple game, too simple actually, to the point where you feel like you're just going through the motions. It doesn't have the wide palette of moves that DMC does, so there's little room to experiment and express yourself. And there's none of the customisation or cheeky humour that defined God Hand. It really doesn't compare favourably to either of those games and has much more in common with the original Golden Axe... just as slow, just as pedestrian but with less charm to its presentation - which is an important factor, whether you like it or not.
Yes there's parrying but it's done, for me in an annoying way. Every enemy attack is coloured with a glowing light. If their fist is blue (I think) then you have to parry it, another colour attack you must dodge it and.... well nothing, that's as deep as it gets.
