you're NOT alexander! that's why.

I got healthyly pwned by those freaking tall thin dudes... I kinda lost my chi with those guys, then they really started to doub;e up on me, with the jump on and over each others backs and kicking my face in.

I haven't got a decent tactic for those tall dudes at all. And they have a crafty block and special move, that freaks me out bad. Aiming to do level 1 on 1 credit was a bizarrely vindictive thing for me to decide to do, it really really make the computer angry.

Shall I do a video breakdown of the different enemy types? - I swear once you see the method just once you'll kick yourself and never take a beating off them again!

Also found out a way of keeping enemies (even bosses) permenently stunned. Only thing is the way I'm currently doing it looks cheaper than cheap - proper racking my brain trying to find the best configuation to pad it out and make it look varied.

You can do it by cancelling just 2 moves! I swear down, once you start this shit they cant do a damn thing about it! XD - MY DEFENSES ARE IMPREGNABLE! I'M ALEXANDER THE GREAT!!!11

Anyone else notice the big weak-point having crab shaped "Giant Enemy Crane!" ?

There's a dog in the races called Massive Damage aswell Laughing out loud

This game is AMAZING! I Received it this morning and haven't been able to let go if until now. I like the fact that you're thrown into the action from the get go rather than having to endure a tutorial, and dealing damage feels just right.

And yes, a video breakdown would be most welcome.

Nice one man -

I'll go through all the different bits and pieces I know, hopefully I'll be able to get some stuff up about movement while attacking to deal with groups tonight.

Another little tip; the Taunt button can be used to call enemies over! You know they sort of have a "home position" that they stand in until you get to a certain range? If you have lots of enemies waiting to bang you up - stand outside the range, line up the screen so it only shows one of them then Taunt. Only that one enemy will run out of the home position to attack you, this lets you pick them off one by one.

So what I failed to comprehend, until my brain woke up, is that hopelessly waggling the right stick up with no rhythm, gets you nowhere. You have to consciously evade the induvidual attacks as if you would in a fighting game.

I wasn't really using the Neo-Evade I was wimping out with the back flip... TILL LAST NIGHT... when that evade started making some sexy sense... timing the incoming with the up on the right analogue... then you're right there up close and personal, whacking fly about their mommas to their nose hairs.

It's such a freaking awesome game.

I can't quite put my enthusiasm for God Hand into words, but perhaps you could say it has a certain sense of ideas left in their raw form. And it plays so well once you've become accustomed to the structure and mechanics.

I also love the dialogue in this game. Quoting random damsel in distress:

"They smacked my ass so many times..."
"But in the end, I started to like it!"

Check THAT out! - What this guy's doing with that pan that falls on Jean's head is sick! I'm gagging to get home and work out how that works now ^^

I think it might be something like the next move you throw has counter properties applied, so if that pan falls on his head then you throw something really strong they cant block it and they go flying!

Just watched the Japanese YouTube vid with the pan being used to trigger a massive attack. O_O DOPE!!!

It takes time to peel back the layers of some games to descover if they have much depth to them and Videogame Journalism just isn't set up for that sort of thing - it needs to be destroyed for the good of the industry as a whole!

Where's Goji when you need him, go thaw his arse out man!

He's probably bought an island covered in ganja somewhere with all the royalties...

I'm doing my bit to try and spread the love for Godhand. It's so much easier now with YouTube - back in the day with Viewtiful Joe I spent my whole time (more like wasted my time actually) justifying each and every little thing about the game to haters on NTSC-UK etc.

Godhand is Da Shit - I'm trying to do a full system breakdown at the moment but these days I get to play games like...one day a week if I'm lucky! T_T

I barely get to play yet I had a quick blast yesterday right from the beginning, shocking that on Normal- Level_die with 1 life I managed to get all the way through to the first fight with Elvis and beat him.
People bitch this game is too hard - it's NOT! Like Joe and DMC3 if you bother to learn how to fight you'll find you'll absolutely pwn with unused items lying around everywhere to spare.

Bruv your teachings with VJ and DMC3 opened up Videogaming for me - I had no idea manz were creating games like that so never really looked to hard for the depth in them. When I saw you cancelling punch and kick to make Joe move faster some light in me head blinked on and I was ready for what could be done with Dante. The frustrating thing is now I'm trying to find this stuff in games that just blatantly don't contain it, which just makes certain games so much more ahead of the field its jokes!!

Keep pimping man Smile

Ditto, I'm not quite there yet in terms of understanding, but after playing Joe and reading/watching the love from Saur something clicked in. It's like a mental block being removed. The realisation that actually I can play.

I'm still waiting on Godhand to be delivered Sad

Quick OT Q' is there any point in going back to Ninja Gaiden Black now that Heroness has been awakened? I got pwn'd hard by that game before. Was I missing something? Or is it just a pointless and shallow Ninja romp?

Ninja Gaiden isn't hard once you think like a Ninja constantly move! block and roll remember that and you'll be fine, the game seriously isn't hard. There's a magic attack which is brutal I can't remeber the name the one that does the flameball thing.

Oh and the vigoorian flail was the rudest weapon in the game!

Madbury

Madbury's picture

The different enemy weights make a difference - that little Viewtiful crew are really lightweight so they float up load on a juggle. From what I can tell he's got the machine gun punch assigned to a button and not part of his main combo string, so he can alternate between the rapid punch and regular combo ones.

I know about taking the piss with juggles against these lot, but I didnt know you could take the piss THAT much! XD - whenever I try to juggle one of them the rest of them maul me, but juggling ALL of them at once - that solves the problem ^^

This one REALLY shows off how sick that frying pan is!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcOhWcH8CzU

He's using;

□:ゴッドジャブ・ゴ ッドフック・ゴッドス トレート・左ジャブ1
(God Jab, God Hook, God Straight, Hidari Jab 1)
↓□:右裏拳 (Migi Backfist)
△:ハッマジャブ2 (Hammerjab 2)
↓△:タメアッパー1 (Tame-Upper 1)
×:左サイドキック3 (Hidari Sidekick 3)
↓×:ゴッドナックル (God Knuckle)

It's the ↓× "God Knuckle" that gets the invincible frames after you use the frying pan. This move is DIRTY - it's Hard Mode he's playing!

Is there a particular strategy for dealing with multiple enemies on LVL-DIE? They are seriously pwning me and my heroness is literally stopping me from taking it down a notch!

EDIT: Actually, I'll try some of that youtube genius and work my way from there.

pizzadude

Posted: Tue, 24/10/2006 - 14:52

Yeah man you can - it's ALL about the evade to cancel the delay off the kicks for me. Like getting Jean to track round in a circle while dealing out the roundhouse you initially get on /\ button to get into a position where you're not overwhelmed. Once there switch over to the forawrd-sway+/\ sweep to interrupt their attacks and knock them down - once you knock them down you'll have time to execute something big - charge a maximum power uppercut (remember that Dragon Punch has a radial attack range and can deal with a group). With evades - it's only big charged attacks and the move after an enemy jumps over your sweep which cannot be evaded via forward sway.

(There's a bit of it here when Die kicks in - but Ihavent covered the later stages yet)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyfbtSyX3mc

If you badly need to take them out one by one - use the taunt to call them over individually from a distance! Look for openings in the scenery, it's VERY easy to blast people off a ledge, over a cliff etc even in Level-Die, all it takes is a knockaway move on Counter to do it!

All of this is to build up your Tension Gauge - once full, kick-cancel the whole group to death!

Once you get access to the [God Knuckle] and [Beat Knuckle 2] moves - have a go at using the frying pan to take out whole groups! Check out the vid I linked to previously.

Against single enemies - try alternating between the 2md and 3rd Drunken Attacks you get and see what happens!! - They cant do ANYTHING! Laughing out loud

Excellent, you're in for a treat.

I'm just discovering the power of drunken moves. Twist is simply stunning (literally) as it effectively evades high attacks and triggers a counter property if timed correctly, giving you WAY too many choices!

My only complaint thus far is that there are not enough buttons on the DualShock for all these cool moves!

I played this for five minutes last night before the dreaded Coronation Street started. (That Charlie Stubbs is such a shit)

Some of the meths in this thread clicked instantly, but I've got a lot of learning to do. (Must finish Prime before getting stuck into this in earnest).

The voice acting in the US version doesn't seem too bad. I'm sure it's not a patch on the Japanese version, but the payoff is English titles in the God Reel, which should make selection easier for a noob.

Madbury

Madbury's picture

All the cut scenes and what not are English in the Japanese release. The only difference I would think is language in the menus and the shop.

There is a chance they've cut bits in the US version too, but I've not seen anyone confirm that.

Holy shit, hard mode is locked on level die! (that or I'm playing quite well) Despite the initial shock it's funny how quickly you get back into the heroness mindset.

Saur, how did you get hold of reverse sweep so early on in the game? I noticed you used it in one of your demos.

You dont need to assign that one to a button - if you forward-evade + /\ button it activates the sweep anyway ^^

Had this baby sittin' about for a while, but I finally spent some quality time with it. What can I say.... I LOVE IT!

Religiously watchin' your vids, Saur, has made me want to pwn this so hard. I've just spent 3 hours mastering the opening level. It's so much fun!! (^_^) I still aint perfecting it though. And I keep accidently hitting the grovel move on the god reel(playing JPN ver.). Arghh!

Gotta say I'm feelin' the evade system, and as expected, the music (Masafumi Takada FTW)!

Bit tired, so I've only just skimmed the pages. Am I right in thinking I should be evade/cancelling once performimg an uppercut inorder to build up the height?

Emir

Posted: Mon, 30/10/2006 - 09:32

yo yo yo.

Got completely pwned by the level 1 bosses again.

Haven't really got a tactic for those guys yet.

Have to admit I only tried them thrice before throwing the controller into orbit.

As far as the game is concerned I think I've used 1 continue to get to that stage, so I'm hoping its extra killage for my Heroness (ability to use saves).

Either that, or I'm totally inept (not entirely unlikely).

Yeah man there's 5 ways as standard to get big air on the enemies.

1. Counter-hit uppercut; throw the uppercut so that it interrupts an incoming attack when it connects. You have to make constant use of the counter-property when in Die.

2. Fully charged uppercut; hold the button down to make Jean charge back the uppercut - this works best as an off-the-floor launcher.

3. Uppercut from stun; guard-break the enemy and throw strikes until it's stunned - the next hit will count as Counter, so an uppercut will launch high.

4. Off-the-floor (Axe-Kick); forward + /\, /\ when an enemy is on the floor (with energy left) in front of you is a fast way to get a really high launcher.

5. Guard-cancels; hold the left stick back, throw the uppercut and then flick your right thumb forwards over the right stick to cancel it with a forward evade. The trick is to cancel it exactly when the move connects - it's usually takes 4 hits to get them up to the height where the extra moves activate.

Is it the gay guys you're fighting? - Their behaviour is exactly like the big tall guys you fight in the stage previously. Strike at them till you see them block then guard break, strike more to get the stun or launch as needed. When they attack you can evade their flurry combo with forward evade then /\ for the sweep, if they jump you backflip.
When you see them put both arms up backflip out of the way cos that's a grab.

Ignore this - just me being a crackhead; It's after you guard break an enemy, you see them reel backwards? It's during that animation when all strikes count as Counter - not when they are stunned.

This game's like a work out on the arms. I'm at the 3 bosses fight on stage 4 now, I've got it on the peak of Level 2 from the get go, I get my first hit in and the Level jumps, before I know it it's Level Die and it's a serious task. I try to deal with the two blokes first, and after 90 mins (0_0)I nearly had it down. I s'pose I'm making it harder on myself by refusing to use continues on this particular brawl (I need the money, eh).
Man, I'm no master yet, but this has to be one of THE bestest games ever!1 Defo game of the year. I can see this entertaining me for the rest of existence. I fuckin' love the comedy in it as well.

Shamelessly stole your meths, Saur. The stronger Roundhouse Kick assigned to X button, activate God Hand, kick-cancel-kick-cancel....

...and I'm onto the next area. Piece of piss. (^_~)

While I'm here, can anyone tell me what I'm meant to be doing in the God Reel Menu.:? I have a list with empty slots to the far right of the screen. For some reason it aint lettin' me dump some new moves on there. Also, why are some highlighted in purple. Kanji is my downfall.Sad

Emir

Posted: Fri, 03/11/2006 - 10:06

That God Reel menu goes like this;

The list on the far right is God Moves you have in surplus, so when you have too many to fit on the reel you can move them to and from the last column to your main ones.

I'm on Stage 7 now - barely scraped through the Pyramid which is disturbingly difficult! The next stage (a boss fight) I started on Level Die, no life and no Tension - I absolutely refuse to use continues so I ended up perfecting him! XD

They're right when they say it's hard but fair! - Now I have to try and deal with the next area (still with no life!) Laughing out loud

Are you doing the, NO Continue, reload save point thing?

'cos I'm doing that, talk about focusing the mind.

The going through menus is so degrading, that dying is not an option private!

The problem, like you say, is starting with no life on lvl 3 and trying to get the groove back. (especially as I am still bit kegs at the forward evade timing).

JibberX

JibberX's picture

Dont worry about timing it man - just keep repeating it as fast as you can, when their moves start missing go for the /\ button sweep.

I've filled up all the save slots already - I aint continuing, remember; The Hoff could only use KITT's Turbo Boost ONCE per episode - did he continue? Like hell he did!
