Whatever happened to Destruction Derby? I remember having a lot of fun with the original when the PS1 was launched, and the sequel was the nuts. I remember one track which was based in a canyon kind of setting, and had some utterly crazy drop offs, one of which had a massive jump just before it. I remember attacking it at all sorts of absurd angles just trying to get the biggest air and maximum amount of spins and 'saults. Once in the air, flick it to the dashboard view and then just take in the sights...it was awesome
The PS2 update was dire and totally bombed, but I reckon there's a bit of life in the franchise yet. Online arena modes done properly could be brilliant, especially using some of the novelty arenas from the second game.
Come on Sony, get this out on PS3 along with a new WipEout, and it'll feel just like the mid-nineties again

i think there are quite a few games that i miss..but the one that really floats my boat and this may seem quite weird in the new digi age.
But christ i really miss Dizzy on my old spectrum. solving puzzles with that lil egg was my first real challange in the old computer days after the text based rpgs which always got a little bleery eyed.
anyways thats the main one i miss me thinks
Hey, if you miss all those games, i sergest you download the ps1 emulator from www.emulatorzone.com, then find the game rom.

Yeah, Dizzy was brilliant. I remember leaving my 48K left on for days on end so that I wouldn’t have to restart every time I had to go to school or something. I remember in the first Dizzy there was a pit which you had to cross about 20 times during the game, and if you miss-timed the jump you’d fall down and would have to restart the game, as there was no way to lose your life once down there. The last few crossings when you were nearing the climax were heart-pound city!
Not sure whether I’d want a swanky new upgrade to Dizzy, it was perfectly suited to that 8-bit cartoon style. A retro collection on the PSP or DS would go down a treat though.

I don’t want to play the originals again, otherwise I’d just fetch them down from the loft. I want a new version, for a new generation, to see what they can do with the series.
Joose,
Have you played FlatOut1/2 at all? I've not played it, but it sounds almost like a spiritual successor to Destruction Derby? I'd be interested to get peeps opinions on it as it's a game I've been looking out to pick up on the cheap for a while now. Am I wasting my time?
I had a Tutang Einstein computer so don't miss any of the 'games' off that piece of crap (except Elite) but my mate had an Amiga and I complete miss one of the game I used to play round his: The Killing Game Show. You played as a little ED209 character that had to traverse platforms that filled up with toxic death while pumping bullets into your enemies (the animation on your character was so well done) - think it was a Psygnosis title? It had some sort of replay/rewind feature on it too which blew my mind at the time.
Oh man, just did some net digging and it was out on the Megadrive O_O Now I need to get Nintendo Japan to release it on the VC and I'll be in retro heaven!!!11!!!1!!!
It was a Psygnosis game yeah, I never played that, but quite fancied it at the time.
I always wanted an n2o sequel. Right now I think the time is right for Space Channel 5 Part 3 and Jam with the Band. I can't beleive Nintendo have held back on an English Band Brothers in fact, criminal.
Yesterday I read a glowing review of CART Flag to Flag on the Dreamcast, the review implied the game would push all my racing buttons.... here it is http://www.ampednews.com/features/230
To be found in Flag To Flag is a highly enjoyable arcade racing experience that absolutely bleeds with Sega's presence, right down to the atmosphere and music.
Is this guy just a CART nut, or does this game rock?
Dunno, I remember it looking pretty sweet back in the day. Hav you played Newman Haas(hole) racing? Or that Papyrus indycar game?
Neither ring a bell. Last great racing/arcade/fun game I played was Le Mans on the DC... I get all dewy eyed about that one...
What platform would I have played those games on?
Both on PC. Newman Haashole I played only because at the time I was really into the Sidewinder FF wheel. It's actually not too shabby with the wheel.
The Papyrus Indycar game (can't remember it's full name) was iirc rather excellent at the time. I only had the demo, which featured Laguna Seca, but it was a lovely little engine and I played that circuit over and over. Maybe the fun was more to do with Laguna Seca, which is up there with Interlagos as great racing game circuits in my book.
The gaming coincidence bomb has just erupted in my face.
Joose! Test Drive: Eve of Destruction for either Xbox or PS2... I was looking at what Monster Games Inc. had done pre Excite Truck... kinda like looking at what a film director did... anyways, before being asked by Nintendo to do Excite Truck it looks like they did Test Drive: Eve of Destruction which although getting mediocre reviews from the mainstream, seems to have a little following with real gamers.
I think I might pick it up if I can find it. Might be a little diamond in there if it was good enough to get Nintendo's notice.

Hmm I've just taken a look at Test Drive: EOD and it does indeed look like it could be a fun game in the Destruction Derby mould. Sounds as though there are loads of game types and ways to cause havoc. If I can find a copy I might give it a go.
I've also had a look at Flatout 2 as Madbury suggested. Only 12.99 at Gameplay so I might give that a go too.
Cheers guys!
A brief search indicates I that it never appeared over here... probably because of its extreme red neckery... I really need to mod my Xbox... unless it was renamed Test Drive: Rednecks go Wild?
It was called just "Driven to Destruction" over here, and possibly PS2 only.
oh dear... I just ordered it... DAMN YOU INTERNET... I'll let you know.
Got it through the post, will stick some vids up if I get a chance tonight.
