This looks so cool and bad ass! Even with the voices! XD

It has two of the best character names ive heard in a long time....Helter Skelter and Travis Touchdown. Laughing out loud

I cant describe how cool the game looks, so enough of me chatting, just watch the trailer. Laughing out loud Wonder what type of game it will be...prolly taking full use of the Wii controller.

Quote:

According to Chami Hentona, PA to CEO at Spike Co. Ltd in Japan, Heroes is currently in the works with Marvelous Interactive and Grasshopper Manufacturer.

Previously, The Wiire spoke exclusively to Goichi Suda and Nobuhiko Nakamura from Grasshopper Manufacturer in a sit-down interview at E3 2006 in Los Angeles. Grasshopper planned to unveil Heroes to the world at the event but was unable to launch the footage as planned

...

Though Nakamura and Suda were unsure when the screens, video and other details about the game would be unveiled, the prediction came to be summer of this year. "Unfortunately," said Hentona, "we are not currently planning on updating the trailer until November/December timeframe."

"Our current plan to release any information including the screenshots and trailers for the media/market (worldwide) is sometimes around [the] November/December time frame," Hentona added. "We will have our new trailer ready by then as well."

As of right now, the game is planned for release in both Japan and overseas in summer 2007.

You beat me to it the title looks hot!!! I knew Suda 51 was making a Wii title, but the trailer blew my expectations out of the water. I can't wait to see some gameplay videos maybe TGS?!?!

Oh and defiantly agree on the fab character names! Laughing out loud

Looks stunning, but we need to see some gameplay videos before getting too excited. Love the aesthetic regardless.

No joke! I had a dream about some sickhead brer called Helter Skelter recently...

It just proves that this world is a Matrix and all this shit is all for ME! XD - OR this universe is controlled by my conscience - you can do this kind of shit once your Neutrino level is raised high enough.

Those voices.....please let them be placeholders, PLEASE!!!!
Also - is that THE Travis? The ghost from Killer7?

It's SUDA51's work - that's all I need to know to be convinced I'll absolutely love it!

Voices are bad, but perhaps they're supposed to be like that? Dunno. Either way it's got a Shenmue 1 sound to it which just cracks me up.

I hate seeing characters that look THAT heavy - but sound EXACTLY like Wimp-Lo from Kung Pow! It's like the way anime is US dubbed - every anime hero has that exact same screechy and infuriating voice!

Dont get me started on Shenmue 1 - they couldnt even be bothered to record the full number of responses from the NPCs which changed the whole atmoshere.

Ryo is such a kiddy fiddling weirdo in English -
"Hey liddle GURL!1 -....is this YUUOOR kitten?" XD

With the masses of storage space available to developers now, you have to lay the blame at the feet of the penny pinching bean counters. There's no reason not to have the original soundtrack and subs nowadays really. Infact I would have thought that in this day and age all games should have a subs option for players who are hard of hearing (not sure that's the PC term).

God I hope the original voice-track in this game isn't like that vid.

That is the orginal voice track -

At least get some people who can ACT though! Japanese games with English dialogue can sound absolutely fantastic when the right people are used. Like Viewtiful Joe on the Cube's characters sound a million times better in their original English rather than the Japanese anime. Devil May Cry 3 aswell - absolutely mint!

These people....actually it's probably the same "actor" doing all the voices sounds just like Wimp-Lo - for SICK characters like them that's NOT good!

Totally agree there -

Like the western version of Killer 7 - they removed all the subtitles from the event sequences! So if you have hearing difficulties you're screwed. Every single scene in the Japanese version was subbed, there's no excuse for such an oversight.

I'd all but given up on the RPG genre aswell because I absolutely cannot stand the US voiceovers they give these games, and on the few lucky occassions we do get dual language - the subs only follow the English script anyway! TBH I find playing through them in Japanese far better now that I'm studying, I really appreciate how much the dialogue (even through subtitles) is altered for the US market. Even down to stats and labels you BADLY need to be clear - they change them in an attempt to make the game more "inclusive" but end up making them impossible to work out! There's no way I'm playing Final Fantasy 12 in English - it was a struggle, but that game world is absolute magic!

An example or how they fuck up RPGs with their localisations is Disgaea. In that game - without getting the guide off Gamefaqs there's absolutely no way to work out what the stat specialists do. These little things give various stat boosts - on the Japanese version they are clearly labelled with the stat they boost within the name. The US version has these renamed to things which have something to do with the stat they boost - but they are so vague on the whole you cant work them out!

For example instead of [Paralysis Resist] - they've renamed it [Witchdoctor], instead of [Deprave Resist] (to resist the Deprave Status) they've renamed it Social Worker, it's so baffling it's actually easier to play the Japanese version!

Must be wicked to have some Japanese skills. Have you thought about going back to games you've already completed? I'm thinking of Panzer Dragoon Saga here. I wonder if the Japanese dialogue and subs give more than the English subs do?

I'd love to play Saga again! - I have a friend I can nick it off but I've been hogging his N64 and Starfox64 for about 4 months now! XD

Going back to play older games now is absolute class! They look so different because all that Hiragana and Kanji actually means something now!

All you peeps know about the TGS trailer for this?

It's basically the old one with a new track put to it and they've changed Travis Touchdown's voice.

Anyway, according to the conference held, it's a possible early '07 release. (0_0)

I'm well exited about the prospect of the title, but like it's another new console I'll have to purchase which is something currently I cannot justify.

Oh I think I'm the only person who doesn't feel to bothered about the voice acting I just wanna be hooked by the gameplay and random storyline.

I cannot wait for this. It'll be pure console sex! And I reckon you're right Saur, it's defo Travis. It HAS to be.

Still think the quoted summer release will be way off mark if it's only 35% complete. Here's hoping it's not as long as the wait for K7.

There’s an interview with Suda in this month’s EDGE and a bit of a feature on the game (including some nice artwork). One thing that’s clear is that Suda has big respect for Rockstar, and this is his interpretation of a GTA game. He didn’t give much of the story away, only saying that Travis is trying to break free from town, and the way he’s doing it is to train up to be an assassin. Suda likened the game design to Zelda – the main game takes place in the city, but the 10 boss style geezers take place out of it (i.e. just like the overworld/dungeon mechanics of Zelda).

Suda was concerned that by the time the game came out, the novelty of standing around and thrashing the remote about will have worn off a bit; he’s thinking more along the lines of people playing it whilst relaxing on the sofa. Travis’s laser sword (woot!) therefore is controlled partly by the remote, but also by button presses too. Enemies have a gauge on screen, and this only drops if you hit them in the right spots. When almost empty, you are able to hit them with a finishing move.

Suda mentioned concerns about the graphical gap between Wii and PS3/360, hence the visual design of the game. He also mentioned that he’s worried about selling it in the east; thinking it will be more suited to western tastes.

Anyway, it was quite a short write up (despite the article being 6 pages long) but it was a nice insight into Suda and the studio.

Looks like I'll be buying EDGE this month then, cheers for the heads up Joose!

Not happy about Suda's lack of faith in using the wiimote as a sword, It's fine in Zelda although I was hoping for something a bit more sophisticated with No More Heroes. Why he's going more Western when Killer7 was such an amazing Japanese game is also a concern, hopefully it will be a satirical look at the US in the same way Rockstar achieve with their GTA games? The treatement America recieves in Killer7 was awesome so he obviously has a taste for this kind of thing.

I wouldn't worry too much about the sword/remote thing. From the sounds of it the remote sensor will still be used plenty, but the actions required will be more subtle than just slashing about.

Need to find some proper gameplay impressions of this. But from the videos it looks like "Waggle" only comes into play at certain times such as death blows, which sounds good to me. Also, seems like they've toned down the violence with enemies exploding into bits that float away instead being sliced in half with blood spraying everywhere.

This is a hyper pastiche of the Grand Theft Auto genre isn't it.

It should be rockin'

I actually completed GTA3... then half of GTA Vice City... then stopped totally, with the entire concept, except Driver Parallel Lines which was inoffensive.
