Pretty good fun in a group if truth be told. Other than that I had a few bouts on Last Blade 2 with a complete noob. Common cries of pain were
"Why am I not doing any damage"
"You said to block, but when I block I move backwards" >_<
"I definately blocked that"
Frankly beating a girl who'd never played a fighter before was, well actually rather fun 
I played Capcom fighting evolution in versus for the first time with my erstwhile Street fighting buddy. It's by no means perfect but there is some great fun to be had especially getting to play against Guile as the SF3 cast!
I've never really played Darkstalkers that much and so it's also good fun to learn these new characters too. It's almost like buying a Now album but with er...fighting.
