My Tosh is deadz0rz, so I'm going to replace it.

Anyone got/seen a 28" Widescreen 50Hz TV recently, and care to share?

I've narrowed it down to Toshiba, Sony or Philips, based on whatvideotv.com reviews.

A certain Philips is meant to be brilliant, but now mysteriously unavailable...

I intend to spend over the Internet odds and buy in Comet, just so I can take it back if its crapola

Big mistake! Have you actually tried to take anything back to those bastards before? Admitedly I'm talking about Currys, but they're all the same really.

I often feel that Sony are overpriced for what you actually get. The last set to really impress me was an old 4:3 Panasonic. The picture on that thing was just fantastic, I've been craving a Panny ever since.

Without getting an oscilloscope out I'm not sure I'll ever notice the subtle colour nuances that people talk about in reviews. Its a very subjective thing.

I do KNOW I don't want a 100Hz psuedo thing, thats terrible, things moving horizontally across the screen flipping break up! However I did get use to it, its amazing what your brain fills in.

Currys are Notoriously bad, I've been hearing good things about COmet.

I've had a 24" Sony Widescreen for a few years and am very pleased with it.

A friend of mine got a 28" Sony earlier this year and it did look very good (I helped him put it together - one part was damaged - bought it from Curries but had no problems getting the part replaced). He is very pleased with the TV.

I'd go Panasonic or Toshiba myself.

Shame Toshiba don't do those nice cheap 28" prog scan sets any more, though they do have 100Hz type image processing issues for non-prog sources.

I've got an old-skool Sony 32" which has survived pretty well, but I had to spend a good afternoon dicking with the service menu to sort out massive overscan cropping and aspect ratio boo-boos.

Dammit the Panasonic does look fine too.

I err against Sony, because I'm irrational.

The Panny's seem to be a little bit more expensive, but I'm still in love. Charles has a Toshiba (100Hz) and that looks very nice indeed. It all comes down to your budget.

Having a 50Hz set kicking around is quite useful if you ever plan on dusting off the Saturn Light guns and letting rip on Virtua Cop 2.
