100Hz Lightgun Hell

Recently I've been given a large widescreen Sony CRT television, which I've installed into the games room. The TV is a big step up from the small 4:3 set that I had before and I want to use it to play my retro stuff on whilst the living room is occupied for Eastenders and Corrie etc.

Problem is the set is 100Hz, which basically buggers me for lightgun games and since my intention is to drop to a single CRT set I'm not really sure what to do now. Should I keep this and then arse about sourcing a load of 100Hz guns, which incidentally I'm not sure you can get for the older consoles. Should I look into modifying the guns I do have to run on 100Hz kit (is this even possible) or swap it with my parents CRT which is 50/60Hz, but nowhere near as nice.

I don't think this is possible, as the gun can't anticipate how the TV is processing the image for 100Hz.

What is the spec. of the TV you have now?

I have the last 50/60Hz 32" CRT model Sony did I think...

Ditch the older lightgun games and just use the Wii, and keep the decent 100Hz for all the other games.

I'm here to help.

The list is longer that that even...

The Wii is reasonably good at recreating the feel of a good lightgun game, but it's not quite perfect. Plus some of the older gun games are still where it's at.

This TV... is it widescreen...?

If so, shame on you, shame on you.

Although I am sure you can pop it into 4:3.

Have you seen the freecycle.org service, maybe thats a way to go for a generica 4:3 magnet, I mean TV.

Yeah it's widescreen. Most have a 4:3 option as does this one. There's a load of 'older' games that support widescreen, so it seems like the way to go. I can live with vertical bars at the side of my picture (some people find this uber-offensive).

I'm on freecycle and you're the second person to suggest that. What I don't want is another TV, so I'm looking to swap. I could freecycle the one I have, but it's a real shame as I went through a load of ball-ache to get it to my house.

Probably won't do anything about it for the moment as we've got the builders in...

Exactly. This is why I still have my CRT.

Anything else would be delusional.
